Hi Bangorrag,
The only information I have is that Jimmy came over from Ireland in approx 1935 and joined the Merchant Navy. After the war he married and settled in Liverpool, but I don't know who he married or where he lived. He died in 1973, and he was Catholic. If I am able to find anymore out I'll let you know

Hi Maggie!
That's not an unusual name so I'll not claim particular knowledge of the man.The man I sailed with was about 50 in mid to late 1950's,engine room crew, and lived in the Sth End.
We were on the R.M.S.HUBERT for a few trip's together.I never heard of the Swordfish, but we did,one night share some very nice (intended for the passenger's)roast chicken!!
Hope you get the 'good's' on him.
Goggy. ;) ;D

HI maggie.
I wonder if you can send a copy of this "Photo"?
Have had two private e-mails sent to me with this request, both from the seamans forum.

Hi Maggie.
I have found another post of your's in "curious fox.com"on this site you give a different side of the story compaired with your post in rootschat;-I quote :
JIMMIE/JAMES MCGRATH-LIVERPOOL.
I AM LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON JAMMIE/JAMES MCGRATH.He was born in Dungarvan,Co Waterford in app1886.He joined the Merchant Navy, and served in ww2.HE WAS AWARDED THE OBE FOR SAVING APPROX 11 LIVES,WHEN HIS SHIP GOT TORPEDOED. THERE WAS A BIG WRITE UP IN THE LIVERPOOL PAPER. HE LOST HIS LEG DUE TO THE TORPEDO , The rest is the same as your Post here.
What I wont to know is are we looking for a SWORDFISH or a BRAVE MAN?? It would help and save time if you could clarify ( If you wont to view this post Google::"liverpool nsw Dungarvon McGrath") it is about the 9th post down.
Regards frustrated Reg.

Hi GOOGY.
Have a look at.
The website is not working, Use Google (fairey swordfish)
Could it be possible the torpedo that sank his boat was called a "swordfish."?

Hi Maggie.
One last question "Are we talking about Liverpool UK or Liverpool NSW."
On the humorous side of all this,I had to smile at a colleague who was about to give up, when he said:-
" Have put all the information together and the answer looks like Robert Newton, in Treasure Island, did he own a parrot?"

I am sorry, but I have been able to get on the computer lately. In answer to you questions, Uncle Jimmy was in Liverpool UK. The message that is on Curious Fox is what my cousin told me about him, and I have no reason to dout her. If you send me your email addess I will be only to pleased to send you a copy of the photo.

Hiya Maggie,
When did Uncle Jim receive his Trophy? Could you post a picture of the Swordfish which I presume looks
like this one http://indian-river.fl.us/fishing/fish/sword.html Was he taking part in a fishing competition?
I have not registered on the Liverpool - the Scouse House Forum so could not read the message about
the Swordfish caught in Liverpool. http://www.thescousehouse.net/index.php?showforum=5
Best Wishes, Christopher

Hi
Have a look at "dungarvan yachting club Ireland" using YAHOO.
Click on WN2 this will enter you into "Genealogy Research Ireland" you may find something,
I sent e-mail to Dungarvan Sailing club, they have no knowledge of an award or any info on a swordfish .
This is going to be a hard one ,maybe you have to start again putting everything you know down Step by Step,as there are too many Topic's Posted and it is getting hard to follow.Start with all the facts you have-Names and Dates then lead up to the (Swordfish Award) try and keep your Topic to one, then everybody will Be-able to help you.
Good luck Reg.
