Does the Catholic church keep permanent records of it's priests?
I have hit a dead end with one particular line (Reid), but have found that my ancestor's uncle was a catholic priest in Kempcairn, Banffshire, Scotland (congregation is now St Thomas's Church, Keith), from 1783 until his death in 1825. His name was Reverend William Reid. I have found his will on Scotland's People but it does not add to the information I already have from other sources. I wondered whether there might be any clerical records which give a clue to his family or geographical origins etc. I do not know if he actually came from Scotland.

I think that Catholic priests had to study at seminaries but where they were I have no idea. Scottish Records re usually excellent. have you contacted the local record office?

Found out from another website which refers to the burials of catholic priests in that area, that he was born in Enzie in 1755 (according to his grave). Here is the link if anyone is interested:
