I am researching my ancestors on my Grandmothers side.
The only adresses i have where they lived are:
5-10 Kew Road Gravesend and 14 Kempthorne Street, Gravesend.
My Grandmothers parents were Harry Warren and Eliza Mildred Millen. They were Married on 02 January 1905 in Fenny Sratford,Buckinghamshire
My Great Grandfather Harry Warren was a leading stoker on Steam Tug H.M Dockyard. I do not know his birthdate or date of death.
My Great Grandmother Eliza Mildred Millen was born on 18 December 1887 in the sub-district of Minster In Sheppey.
She died on 14 November 1950 in Gravesend.
Where can i find out about the steam tug h.m. Dockyard?
I hope somebody out there can help me.
Thank you
Damon

Hi Damon
The H.M Dockyard, could it be Chatham or Woolwich ? They are about the nearest to Gravesend, although, Gravesend/Northfleet did have its own ship building hey day many years ago. Also Sheerness was quite boaty too.....not much help I know :( Do you know the name of the steam tug ?
You could try Cityark.
The 5 - 10 "Kew" Road would be NEW Road, Kempthorne St...sad to say disappeared many years ago now :(
Best wishes.....Iris :)

Yes, It Is the Chatham dockyard :). I dont know the name of the steam tug though :(.
I have my Great Grandmothers old medical card for Kent insurance committe,Station Road,Maidstone and it could be New Road that is printed on the card.
The card was issued on 05 August 1932 and the Doctor is D Hartley.
Do they have any medical records of paitents in that era?

Hi Damon
If I remember rightly, my Mum once told me there was a Doctor Hartley in Gravesend.
I think you would have to get in touch with Maidstone for medical records. They must keep them somewhere,1932 is not really that long ago.
The centre for Kentish Studies would probably be the best place to try, they have archives for everything in Kent
www.kentarchives.org.uk......I think that is the addy. If you do a search ....centre for Kentish studies....it should come up with lots of different accesses for Kent.
Hope you find what you are looking for :)
Best wishes.....Iris :)

Hello,
This is a long shot, but thought I would double check. I have been researching a Harry Warren (my Great Grandfather) that was a "locomotive fireman" in New York as of 1914. Later coming to Toronto, Canada, marrying my Great Grandmother in 1917 (Henrietta Sheppard, born in Walworth London, coming to Canada with her whole family when she was young). He has conflicting places of birth between his marriage record and his attestation papers for the war. His place of birth that is used most often is Dublin, Ireland. My Great Uncle was able to tell me that he always said he was Irish, but was very secretive about his life and would never allow photographs taken of himself. No one knows anything about his family before marrying my great grandmother and it was always speculated that he was running from something (or someone).
I found your post with a Google Search for his name plus "Stoker" which I recently discovered was the same as a "Fireman" used for that same occupation in the US so thought I would try my luck.
Through my searches I have this information about him. I'm wondering if you have been able to trace him since your post and can confirm that your Harry Warren stayed in the UK.
Harry Warren
B. July 3, 1890 - Dublin, Ireland
Mother : Margaret Bynn (possibly transcribed incorrectly)
Father : George Warren
Brother: Frank
The date of birth could be wrong, his marriage record states he was born in Pennsylvania, but all other records states he was from specifically Dublin (I have confirmed they are the same person through signature and Tattoos). I don't particularly trust the information he has been using.
Thank you!
Lisa
