Hi
I am trying to find Charles HOSIER born1845 in Sarratt, Hertford. I know where he is in 1881 from the census and I think that he married Mary Ann SEYMOUR born 1845 in Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire in the registration district of Kensington in 1872.
Charles HOSIER in 1881 is a blacksmith. If it is possible I would like to try and find Charles in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 census.
From the IGI I think that Charles is the son of William HOSIER from Sarratt, Hertford and Mary HOW / HOWE and that there is the possibility that William is also a blacksmith. By getting these censuses I should be able to check if this is my Charles HOSIER. I think that he has siblings named Ann, Elizabeth and Samuel. ???
I have not had any luck finding Charles HOSIER or Mary Ann SEYMOUR (at home in Oxfordshire in 1861 census and a dressmaker) in London in 1871 Census. ???
I am pretty sure that I have the correct family in 1881 because they name their sons Frank HOWE HOSIER and Charles SEYMOUR HOSIER. This also matches the IGI.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Helen

Hi Nessie and CP
Many, many thanks for the look-ups and other information. :D :D
And thank you for finding Mary Ann SEYMOUR next door.
I assume that the family stay in the Sarratt area in 1891 and I think that William Godfrey HOSIER gets married to a Jemima ????.
Once again, thank you

Hi CP
Thank you for the marriage of William Godfrey HOSIER and Mary Jemima PRESTIDGE, plus the 1891 census for Jemima with her parents and the 1901 census of the newly weds. I assume that William G HOSIER is still at Sarratt in 1891.
About the name GODFREY. I have no idea where this family connection is. As I think that his parents Charles and Mary Ann HOSIER nee SEYMOUR only had 3 sons and I know the two younger sons have a family name as a middle name, I am assuming that the eldest son's middle name is also a family name.
Eldest son: William GODFREY HOSIER
??? where does the GODFREY name come from? query it is Mary Ann HOSIER's mother's maiden name? A Sarah UNKNOWN married Thomas SEYMOUR - Mary Ann's parents.
Middle son: Frank HOWE HOSIER
HOWE is the surname of Charles HOSIER's mother Mary / Mary Ann who married William HOSIER.
Youngest son: Charles SEYMOUR HOSIER
SEYMOUR is the maiden name for his mother Mary Ann HOSIER
If you have any other suggestions or known connection to GODFREY I would be pleased to know about them.
Once again thanks
Helen
