Hi,
I am researching my FLOOD line from Sydney.
Patrick Flood, born bet 1817-1830 in Dublin immigrated to Australia (I haven't found out how or when - he doesn't appear to be a convict though). He married/partnered Helen (Ellen) Green abt 1865 and lived in the Gundagai area of New South Wales. Their first child was born abt 1855.
I have not been able to find any concrete details on Patrick's origin. I don't know if any research can be done from the Dublin end to determine when he left there. I can't find a record of his entry into Australia.
Any assistance would be appreciated. ;D
regards
Carol

Hi if you go to www.bdm.nsw.gov.au you can do a free search. I found Thomas, Job and Henry all born in Gundagai.
Happy hunting!

Thanks, I have searched the NSW BDM. Patrick was not born here. Those people you found are his children and their birth certificates do not contain any information to assist me to determine Patrick's immigration.

Rather a long shot, but I am interested in the name Flood in Dublin. My ancestor Joseph Brooks, weaver of Coventry b Dublin c.1795 (parents Richard & Eleanor) had a first marriage with Mary Ann Flood c.1820 (possibly Dublin). She died of Asiatic cholera in Coventry 19 Sept 1849. I am wondering whether she had a brother Patrick as the time schedule seems very close. If I do find any link in my researches I will certainly let you know.

Hi,
My information on Patrick Flood is pretty vague. I have an estimated date of birth of 1817 to 1830. He never married his partner Helen/Ellen Green, so I have no marriage certificate to get details of his parents etc. The information on his birthplace has come from the birth certificates of his children. Sorry I can't be any more specific. If you work out that my Patrick could be related to your Flood family could you please let me know :-)

Hi Carol :)
Patrick's death certificate may have useful information on it. If the informant on the certificate was aware of it, info such as parents, birthplace and how long in the colony could be recorded. Worth a try anyway.
Other places to look are immigration records. There are some online indexes for NSW here:

Victoria:

Are you sure he wasn't a convict? Good luck with your search :)

Carol, have you seen this webpage?

Does anyone have any information on Ellen Green and Patrick Flood, who stated they married at Gundaroo c 1850 ?
They had about 11 children. Hannah (Anna) b. c. 1856 Yass, Jane 1857,Ellen 1859,Elizabeth 1862, Thomas b. 1863 (the first reg,) Allen,1865 Henry (Harry) 1870, Eliza 1875 Mary Agnes (Maggie) 1877 Simon (Samuel) 1880. Hannah was my great grandmother.
Ellen was said to be born Gundaroo, however the only baptism of a "Green" who suits is Helen Green. b. 13 July 1840 parents Thomas Green (settler) and Ann. Patrick Flood and Ellen (Green) were at Billabong Creek, Bethungra in the 1870's.
Patrick Flood was born Dublin Ireland c. 1817 and died Bethungra 30 November, 1887 and Ellen (Green) Flood died Cootamundra 9 October 1914.
I would appreciate any information on Patrick and Ellen and descendants.
Colleen.

Coincidentally, Gundaroo is only about a 20 minute drive away from where I live :)

Hi,
I have his death certificate and it does not assist with my enquiries. Thanks for asking about it.

Hi Carol,
Probably the only thing left to do is to search all the indexes you can find for his immigration. I posted some links above which will be useful for this, but there might be indexes not yet available online that it would be worth looking at. I had a quick look at the NSW Assisted Immigrants indexes, and there were several Patrick FLOODs there, but no way of knowing if any were yours (apart from the dates I suppose).
If you have not already done so, it might be worth contacting:

Hello again
I don't know whether this can be a contact for your Patrick Flood but I recently received a reply to my email to the Local History Dept of Dublin Library. I asked for entries for the name (and also Brooks) from "Weavers and Related Trades Dublin 1826"
They give a Patrick Flood, Silk weaver, New Market, Durblin. 5 in family. Unfortunately no age is given but could he have a son Patrick and I need to know did he have a daughter, Mary Ann. There are other Floods living in Coombe, a weaving area, in Dublin. A Christopher (aged 32) and Charles. (no age given). These people received benefit when the weaving industry collapsed in Dublin in the 1820's.
Best wishes

Hello,
I have checked on the Public Records Unassisted Shipping list for Victoria and a Patrick Flood aged 24 arrived in Victoria in 1860 on the ship the Hope.
You may have checked this list and he may not be related, but thought I would send anyway.

Thanks Corcoran
It seems Patrick Flood is a pretty common name and I have insufficient information to be able to take this line any further at this stage. I'm studying full-time and my family research has been put on hold for now.

One of my lines starts with Patrick Flood born 1797 Baldoyle, Dublin. He become a coastguard officer in 1822 and spent most of his career in the service at various stations around England. I only have information about his direct descendants. Coincidentally there is an Anne Green in my line too.
