Hi
Check this out, it's cine footage taken by an American officer WW2.

See St Alkmunds Church as it was spire and all, plus nearly 2 minutes of other shots.
Maybe you'll recognise someone!

Dear Kew
Thanks very much for telling us about this. Absolutely rivetting - I don't remember horse drawn vehicles in Derby but always loved the trolley buses - we used them every Saturday to visit my gran and grandad. Wonderful when they went past a junction and sparked.

Glad you liked it, I enjoyed seeing St Alkmunds church in all it's glory in the opening footage.

Dear Kew
But are you sure that was St Alkmund's at the beginning - I thought it was the cathedral - I think I'd better watch it again - actually I'm definitely going to watch it again. Yes, I remember St Alkmund's well - never actually went there - but obviously you could see it from Irongate, and my mother used to frequent a butcher in King Street, with his sign "A Woolley, butcher" which used to amuse me no end - takes very little to make some people laugh. There was also a derelict chapel close to it which I regret the loss of - because of course it all went when the inner ring road was built. As you say it's nice to see St Alkmund's with the top of its spire.
Best wishes
Linda
ps I hope they find the little girl.
