Hi,
I am researching the Celey and Vickary line from Sydney.
Elizabeth Celey (alias Kewer, Sealy and variations) was born in Somerset, England about 1776. It is believed that Elizabeth's mother was Elizabeth Vicary nee Sealy/Celey who married Robert Vickary in North Curry, 19th February 1786 after the birth of Elizabeth Celey.
Elizabeth was tried at Somerset on 8/8/1795 for stealing. She was transported to Australia and arrived on 18th July 1798. Her mother Elizabeth Vickary was convicted of receiving the goods stolen by her daughter. Elizabeth Vickary was also convicted and transported to Australia on the same vessel.
As this is a convict line I'm sure that many people have tried to trace it back to England. To my knowledge there hasn't been much success.
Any information would be appreciated.
regards
Carol

Hi Carol
My maiden name is Sealy, I have been able to trace my line back to John Sealy b1786 from Taunton, North Curry is very near Taunton and I am wondering if there might be a connection. My family were cabinet makers. John married Mary Ann Wood, she later moved with her son to Bristol. If this rings any bells, or you can give me any more information I'll happily exchange information with you.
Best wishes
ps My son is living in Manly, Sydney at the moment.

Hi,
It is quite possible that there is a link. Taunton has come up in the research. There are a couple of Family Associations in Australia around Elizabeth Celey, I used to belong to one of them. I'm sure that they had spent a lot of time researching the Celey/Sealy line, but I don't think they were able to progress any further than Elizabeth Sealy (the mother of Elizabeth Celey) who married Robert Vickary at North Curry on 19th July 1786. You can find that marriage at www.familysearch.org (her name is recorded as Betty Sealy). I haven't looked at the microfilm. I have an estimated date of birth for her of 1746 to 1766. It is thought that the daughter Elizabeth was born before the marriage (abt 1776 at Holbourne, Somerset).
As I'm in Sydney, it is difficult for me to check UK records other than what light be available online. I'm also studying full time which leaves little time for research.

My Grandmother was Elizabeth Kate Sealy born 1870/1, she married a William John Boyd in 1903 in Belfast. William's sister Ellen Boyd married a Mr Wood. Is there any connection between your Woods and Sealys.
