Duh!!!!   I must be half brain dead this week.

James Sanders was listed as a Sergeant in the Royal Artillery on his marriage license.  May 1856 in Woolwich

His wife gave birth to a son at sea returning from Malta in July of 1857.

He was also listed to be a Sergeant on his sons birth record. Dec. 1858  in Shoreditch.

He was still a Sergeant in the 1861 census in Woolwich.

Another son was born in Woolwich in 1862.

Sometime between 1862 and 1864 he came to Canada.  Family lore states that is was due to the United States Civil War.  It is a possiblity that he deserted and went to the US at this time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
