Hi
I have just looked on 1837 online and done a search on my 3x gt grandfather on the 1891 census. He originally came from Easton Royal in Wiltshire but in this census he is down as living in Hungerford, so I am hoping I am on the right board.
His name is David Whitbread b 1815, Where born) Easton Royal Wiltshire, ( Relationship) Head, (Occupation) shepherd
Mary Whitbread b1818,(Where born) Mildenhall, Wiltshire
(Relationship), Wife
George Whitbread (age last birthday)20, (where born) London (Relationship) Grandson, (Occupation) Gen Labourer
There is a Sarah Whitbread living with him and the details of her are:
Sarah Whitbread (age last birthday) 13 (relationship)Grandaughter (where born)Axford Ramsbury, Wiltshire.
Who were her parents?
Any help on Sarah no matter how small is appreciated
Thank you in Advance

Hi Luciloo
I think this must be Sarah's birth, as Hungerford district includes Ramsbury -
SEP 1877 - Sarah Whitbread - Hungerford 2c 241

Hi again
I notice that grandson George is with his grandparents in 1881 census, but Sarah isn't. I assume you've got that record? Do you know George's parentage?

Hi Angela
Thank you for you reply its a start.
Now the next step would be to try to get her birth certificate and maybe I can get her parents from that maybe???
While typing I received your 2nd reply.
alas no I do not have his parentage either.
I found one for Marylebone, so again will have to try there for his birth certificate???
Kind regards

and again......
I looked back at the 1871 and 1861 censuses and notice that David and Mary had a number of girls around the right age to have had illegitimate children. With several of my ancestors, the girls were in service, often in London and had to leave the children with the grandparents while they carried on working. Only a guess, mind!
I think a good bet is to see if anyone has access to the Ramsbury parish records ( a number of people go to the Wiltshire Record office from time to time and will do lookups...) as the chances are quite good that Sarah (and George?) would have been baptised in Ramsbury if the scenario I'm guessing at had happened.

Hi again Luciloo
Our posts crossed!
I'm thinking that Sarah's birth certificate is a really good bet if finances will run to it, but parish record lookups might be quicker if anyone is going to the record office......
Have you got the 1871 and 1861 censuses I mentioned?

Hi Angela
No I do not have any of those census I only came across the 1891 census as I had 10 units from LostCousins but had used most of them up looking for my other ancestors.
Kind regards
