Title: 1871 Census; Hemel Hempstead: LOVELL
Post by: Bram Taylor on Friday 19 May 06 10:20 BST (UK)
Hi!
Could anybody help me out with the family of Henry Lovell born abt. 1839 in Grendon, Bucks. And his wife, Leah Ann born abt. 1841 in Quainton, Bucks.
I believe that they were in Hemel Hempstead in 1871? Probably in Box Moor?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Bram Taylor

Thanks again Tanya, that was quick, again :) I am trying to work out this fellow's wives, he is a bit like Henry the IIIV ???
Do you have any indication on the relationship of Henry J, Lovell, aged 7  to his father?
I was told a while ago by somebody that he was the son of the mother, Leah Ann (Roads)  but not the father!
Don't go to any trouble over it, I thought maybe there was a note or something?
Anyway, much obliged to you for your prompt reply. I may have to get that birth sorted out too.
Cheers,
Bram

 ;D  ;D I see he has a wife Maria in 1881 and is a widower in 1891.

I can't see Henry in 1861 so far but his wife Leah is at Quainton with her parents - any use?

Hello again, I missed that reply while updating mine! you do more in five minutes than I do all day from down here ???
Henry in the 1861 was boarding with a widowed charwoman! still married while Leah was with her parents?
Birch Ann, head, Widow, F 69, Charwoman,b Chesham, Bucks
Lovell, Henry, Boarder, Married, M, Boot & Shoemaker, Grendon Underwood, Bucks.

Water Lane, Watford.
You are quite right about Maria, she is our direct relative, she died of TB.

I need a coffee!
Bram ;D

Sorry Bram,

I had overseen your update. It says son for Henry.
Leah was already a Lovell in 1861 so he wasn't born before her marriage, but of course that's no proof as to who the real father is...  ::)

Hi Bram
Cant beleive there is all this chat about my great grandfathers family!

Have already replied to a previous earlier message but don't know if you will see the reply - new to this message board.

Henry  Lovell and Leah Roads were my great great grandparents. I have that Henry married Leah on 23/10/1860. They had 4 children. Henry- 12/02/1864, William-c1867, Herbert-30/11/1868, Elizabeth-c1870. Henry sr also married Anne Dove nee Garner on 17/04/1898 and died in oct 1900. We also have no death date for Leah only that it was after 1881. Of the children of Henry and Leah, Henry John died in Northampton in 1938 and Herbert George in vanvouver island in 1958.
Regards Jo

Hi Josephine

Thanks for your reply to my posting, that will fill in a few more gaps :) Sorry I missed your earlier message but I have been up in the country for a few days.

My wife's mother was an Eggleton and she descends from the older brother of Maria Eggleton, Henry's second wife, they married 9 May 1876 after Leah presumably died. His name was Jacob Eggleton, a Tailor and he married a Julia Wheeler, they married 15th August 1870 in Marylebone, Middlesex and they had three children, Charles, Frederick Edward, my wife's grandfather, and Thomas, I would certainly like to see any information around that area and if you like you can send it to my email address which I will send to you via a PM? Likewise if you want anything on Jacob I will send it to you as it is fairly complete?
Once again, many thanks for getting in touch,

Best regards,

Bram

Hi everyone. In fact, Elizabeth Lovell is my wife's great grandmother. She was born on 6 March 1870 in Boxmoor. I have a photograph of her with her father. I think I have pictures of Harry (Henry) and Bill (William) also. We thought that the other brother emigrated to South Africa (this may be wrong) so it is interesting that he appears to have died in Canada.
Best wishes.
