Hello Everybody,
Hoping you good people can help again, I have a Richard Dunn born abt.1815, Tailor, wife Lucenda abt 1814, Waistcoat maker, son William, shipwright apprentic, 1842, Lucenda daughter abt 1840 waistcoat maker and Henry son abt 1851 scholar. They were in Lancashire England, in 1861 and on the census as living in the Toxteth Area of Liverpool.
So the question is were do I look to find trace of them in Ireland as no idea what area they are from, but gut feeling says Dublin. Can anybody help please.
Many Thanks
Regards
Mary Ellen

Hello Mary Ellen,
I looked at Griffiths Valuation of Ireland 1848 to 64. www.failteromhat.com is there any specific reason you think Richard Dunn may be from Dublin other than a gut feeling. The Valuation shows several Richard Dunns in Ireland. You may be able to rule out inland towns but since you do not know when the family moved to Liverpool maybe all Richards should be checked. If Richard was not a head of household in Ireland I am not sure how you find him. There is a Dublin Census 1851 listing 60,000 heads of househild including names and addresses. www.originsnetwork.com/help/aboutio-dub1851.htm
Best Wishes, Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for that , it is that I am tracing a William Dunn born abt 1842 a Shipwright, on the census in 1881 England he is dead, and on the earlier census he does not appear so I have concluded that he is at sea except for 1861, there is a William Dunn aged 19 Apprentice Shipwright, Father Richard and mother lucenda/lucinda plus daughter of the same name which by the way is a family name on that line and younger brother Henry, all born in Ireland.
Father and Mother and Sister, are in the Tailoring Trade, which is a flair that some living members have, and that was my reasoning apart from that old members had said that we were originally from Ireland.
Thanks again
Regards
