Title: Hope I've got the Right part of Yorks. Where is this?
Post by: Jan Ann on Tuesday 16 May 06 19:46 BST (UK)
Hi There

I think this is my first post on the Yorkshire Board!
I have just discovered that the Wade family originates from Horrberry ? and later Springhead.

Can anyone tell me whereabouts this is as when I tried Google I am getting different results - some say Hull others say Scarborough.

Which major town are Horrberry and Springhead near and which district would BMD's for these areas come under.

Cheers
Jan ;)

I know of Horbury, a large village and township in the parish of Wakefield, on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, lies in the vale of the Calder, 3 miles S.W. of Wakefield. In the counties Gazetter it lists Horbury Junction  and Horbury Bridge.

Springhead is adjacent to Oldham Lancashire although Springhead is classed as Yorkshire.

Springhead is also at Cottingham, near Hull.  Probably not relevant.

hi Biilibob ;)

Is that you in the Photo?  Nice Legs....... ;D

Thanks for your reply - it does make a little sense as 3 of the children were born in Springhead and one in Wakefield.

Edward Wade b 1810 Horbury married Sarah V ?? born Huddersfield - never was any good at Geography - is Huddersfield near Wakefield, spose it helps if you r a rugby league fan!

Cheers

Hudddersfield is Near Wakefield and Leeds and not too far away from Oldham I think these places are nearer to the Springhead near Oldham than the 1 in Hull  Here is an address to a good online map of Yorkshire

Springhead, near Oldham, was definitely in the West Riding until the 1970s.

It is only a few miles from Huddersfield---probably about as far as Horbury is in the opposite direction.
