Hi all,
I am having some difficulties locating any information about the Harper family from Bethnal Green. They do not appear on the IGI and I can not find their marriage details on the Ancestry BMD so I can send for their marriage certificate
What I am looking for is the marriage/baptism/birth details for James Harper (born 1830) and Ann Hughes (born 1833), their first child (James Harper) was born in 1850 in Bethnal Green and their second, Ann was a relation of fine. I managed to find her BMD details as so have her birth certificate and her mother is down as Ann Hughes.
I subscribe to Ancestry so have access to all the census' and on the 1841 on their appears to be two James Harper's and two Ann Hughes which confuses matters some what.
Any head with this will be gratefully received.

Hello, Alan ,
Have you condisered that this family could be the Harper family you are looking for.
1871 census
RG10/491 folio 93 page 9
7, Cumberland Place, Bethnal Green
James Harper age 43 Labourer b Bethnal Green
Ann wife age 39 Licensed Pedlar b ditto
Susan dau age 16 Perfumer b ditto
John son age 12 Rope Maker b ditto
Jane dau age 8 b ditto
Charlotte dau age 6 b ditto
William son age 4 b ditto
Mary dau age 1 b ditto
Birth
James Harper
Dec ¼ 1850 Bethnal Green II 3
Ann Harper
Mar ¼ 1853 Bethnal Green 1c 280
There are no James & Ann shown on this 1871census but they would both have been old enough to have flown the nest.
I couod find no marriage for James & Ann in the years 1847 to 1850.

Hi
Yes that is them on the 1871 census as I had already found them on there. I have Ann's birth certificate and by the date of the 1871 census she had already married hence her not being with the rest of the family.
I have found a marriage for James Harper and Ann Hughes on the IGI in November 1851 at Stepney All Saints, if this is true it means that they had their first child (also James) out of wedlock and that the 1851 census which has them as married must be in error.
It is a tad puzzling at the moment.
Thanks for the help :)

I just received the marriage certificate for Thomas Donaldson and Joannah Harper in the Parish of Sunderland. Father of Joannah was Archbold. Witnesses were James Harper and Eleanor Harper. The marriage took place August 7, 1853. Archbold was a Joiner and both James and Eleanor signed the certificate with an x...

in the Parish of Sunderland.
Then I don't see a connection with my Harpers who were from Bethnal Green in London.

Hi Alan,
Check out my family tree on Ancestry.co.uk, its a public tree called The Stevenson Family Tree. Do we share the same Harpers? Because I had trouble finding anything too!
David.

Parents, William John HARPER and ELIZABETH
There are 6 children born between 1829-1840. Probably you would be able to find this family on 1841 Census.I havent looked yet.

No need to apologise Trish as I haven't even heard or come across that site before, will take a look later. Thanks for the information I will take a look at everything you have posted, one question though, where has the James Harper transcription come from, was it the Bethnal Green website ?
The IGI marriage is correct as I have the marriage certificate.

Hi Alan b,
The christening of James Harper is on the IGI at Familysearch.
It is a submitted record but with a batch no. and as I said 6 christenings of children to Will and Liz. Then I looked for a Census to back it up. The one I posted seems to be correct.

Thanks for clearing that up. I think I have all the Harpers from that marriage. I am just waiting for Ancestry to get the records from these parishes uploaded to their LMA database collection then I can really start to sort these Harpers out.

How far back have you got?
Have you got as a possibility for James parents;
William John HARPER and Elizabeth KEATES married 1824

You can see what I have on my site:

What I have might not be correct, hence me wanting these records on Ancestry.
