This is a picture of my grandfather, Edward Haines. He served in India between 1892 and 1902. Can anyone help me to identify his regiment from this photograph?
Thanks

Hi
By the shape of the flame on the collar dogs, I would say that he is serving in a Fusilier Regt..

Is this Edward haines any relation to an Edward Haines by any chance who was a silhouette artist in Brighton from 1840 to 1860?

The Royal Field/ Garrison Artillery & Royal Engineers also had the Grenade, as a collar badge, and looking at the head dress I would go for RFA/RGA, or RE.

I would go for artillery, given the round ball on the helmet. Any chance of a close up on the shoulder titles. Although hard to tell at an angle.

I posted this request last year. Earlier this year, I at last managed to trace grandfather's army records at Kew. It was quite a hunt, he later served in WW1 and both his Indian army records and war records had been put onto his pension record.
I have now established that he did serve in the Royal Artillery, the 54th F.B.R.A. He also served in the RFA in WW1.
My grandfather's family were farmers from the Westbury and Frome area, we have no connections with Brighton.

I do not think these are my relatives. We have a connection with Beckington, my grandparents were married in the parish church there in 1903. However, your man's surname is Haine but mine are Haines ending with an S. My great grandparents are buried in the churchyard at Berkley nr Frome, I seem to remember when searching for their graves we came across a grave stone with the family name of Haine. I guess Haine/Haines are local names to that part of the world.
