Hi
I am trying to sort out a family relationship.
To start I need some kind person to check out the 1851 census for Farnham Royal / Stoke Poges and for folio 602/household schedule 24. This is the family of Thomas and Lucy PUSEY with children Thomas, John, Lucy, Ann and Jane. I am interested in Thomas PUSEY as I am trying to trace him through the censuses.
I have the son Thomas born 1843/1844 in Eton on the 1861 census but have not find him in 1871. I know that he marries in 1868 a Esther SEYMOUR in Henley.
In 1881 Thomas PUSEY born 1843/1844 I think is with his cousin Thomas ELMES/ELMS but the age is 30 instead of 36.
If someone could check this out - RG11/0053/88/42 I would be most grateful.
Because on the 1851 census there is a Thomas ELMES with his parents Edward and Mary living 2 houses away from I think is Thomas's grandfather Thomas PUSEY b.1789.
The census index 1851 I have is for Farnham Royal, folio 603 for both Thomas PUSEY b.1789 and Thomas ELMES b.1834.
Both are born in Farnham Royal.
If it is possible to check out this ELMES family for the 1861 and 1871 censuses, I then may find the cousin link.
Any help very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance

Hi Pam
Many thanks for the many look ups.
Do you have access to the 1871 census? Did you find Thomas ELMES in 1871? I think he should be married and have his son Edwin Joseph ELMES with him?
I do not know if his parents Edward and Maria ELMES are alive in 1871 as I have had no luck tracing them?
Once again thank you very much for all your help.

Hi
I am revisiting the relationship of Thomas PUSEY born 1843 and Thomas ELMES/ELMS born 1834. They are both born in Farnham Royal. I think that their mothers may be sisters and therefore they are cousins like it is written in the 1881 English census.
Do I continue here or start a new topic? If so how do you link the two topics.
Thank you in advance

Hi
I am revisiting the relationship of Thomas PUSEY born 1843 and Thomas ELMES/ELMS born 1834. They are both born in Farnham Royal. I think that their mothers may be sisters and therefore they are cousins like it is written in the 1881 English census.
It seems that Thomas PUSEY and Thomas ELM(E)S were indeed cousins - their respective mothers being daughters of Henry and Jane ALMON(D). Mary Ann, the mother of Thomas ELM(E)S, was baptised at Burnham, Bucks on 9 June 1811, and Lucy, the mother of Thomas PUSEY, was baptised at Burnham on 20 March 1814.
The surname ALMOND provides some interesting variations owing to the 'L' usually being pronounced as an 'R' and the 'D' at the end often being silent. This being so it was no surprise to find that Mary's surname is given as ARMAN upon her marriage to Edward ELMS on 22 October 1831 at Farnham Royal, Bucks. Lucy's surname is given as ANNON in the GRO Index when she married Thomas PUSEY (Windsor Registration District Apr/May/June Qtr 1843).
Mary Ann and Lucy's parents MAY be the Henry ALMON and Jane TAYLOR who married at Burnham, Bucks on 3 Nov 1792. However, I can only find the following children - James bp 14 Sep 1800 (as HARMON), Charles bp 14 Nov 1802, George bp 27 Apr 1806, Lydia bp 31 Mar 1808, Mary Ann bp 9 Jun 1811 and Lucy bp 20 Mar 1814 (the last five all baptised as ALMON or ALMOND). It would be unusual for there to be no children of a marriage for almost eight years so perhaps there were some baptised elsewhere.

Hi Orpheus
Thank you for your informative reply. Thank you for explaining the surname ALMON(D).
I have the birth certificate of the youngest child of Lucy and Thomas PUSEY - Henry with the maiden name for Lucy as HARMAN.
With the new GRO birth indexes I looked up the 8 children of Thomas and Lucy PUSEY. They give the mothers maiden name as ARMON / HARMAN.
Over the years the elder relatives have thought that Lucy and Thomas did not marry but lived as common wife and husband. I however was only looking under HARMAN. When I saw the maiden name for Lucy on the eldest child as ARMON, I wondered about the marriage you mention.
Since Thomas and Lucy named some of the children Henry, Jane, Lucy and Ann I think that your information helps make Lucy and Mary Ann parents to be Henry ALMON and Jane TAYLOR.
Now I am not sure which name to put as Lucy's surname on my family tree.
Thanks
Helen
