The 1881 census gives a Jeremiah JENNING born around 1841-43 at Ogbourne St George, near Marlborough Wiltshire.
Is the some kind person who could please find the entry for him and his family in the 1851 census?
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Best Regards

That's very kind of you Paula. I have him in 1881 (Jenning without the S) and found his birth record at Marlsbro for Sep 1841 at Free BMD. I'm wanting to find who are his parents and thought the 1851 census would show this. Unlike other counties, I can't get any Parish look ups on this Wiltshire board so I'm getting no where.
Any help greatly appreciated and thank you so much.

Hi Art,
Ogbourne St George baptism records are included on the IGI, batch number C023111 being the appropriate batch to search. However, there only appears to be one Jenning(s) baptism in the parish and that's in 1851. This is a James John baptised 16 Nov 1851, parents James and Ann. No Jeremiahs around at all.
I can't find a suitable candidate in Wiltshire at the moment in 1851

Thanks Neil.
I am searching my 2 x gr grandfather John Jennings. Someone suggested a link with a Devizes family long reputed for their Fun Fair Business. There are 2 Jennnigs born in Ogbourne St George, according to the 1881 census John b around 1821 and Jeremiah born around 1841-43. Both a travelling hawkers, tinkers and moved around in Caravans. This John is founder of the Devizes Fun Fair Business as the 1901 census shows.
From the list of children Hampshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire (Newbury) seems to be the trail they followed. Here is the list from the 1881 census.

Hi Tricia.
Thank you for these look ups. I'm sure this is him in the 1861 census. What I'm trying to do is to discover who are his parents or those of the John Jennings. Jeremiah is a name used by my 2 x gr grandfather John Jennings and his descendants, and I believe this Jeremiah is linked to my John Jennings.
The other John Jennings b Ogbourne St G had two of his children baptised at Southbroom St James where my John's daughter Susanna was baptised in 1854. There are no other Jennings recorded there and this leads me to believe there is a connection.
I am unable to get anyone with an Index of Baptisms who can find where my John Jennings, born around 1818 to 1825 to William Jennings and Ann. I have nothing other than Wiltshire to go on.
Any help is so appreciated as piece by piece things are slowly coming together.
Thank you for this information. I'll get there some day.
Very Best Regards

I'm still plodding on but becoming more frustrated as I go along.
You refer to other posts for John Jenning 1818 - have you had any replies to these?
I have found him in 1871 - do you have this? The address is wonderful ;D
I feel the only option with Jeremiah is to send for his birth certificate which will give parent' names including mother's maiden name.
Going back to John I suspect that Rose is his second wife. Have you seen the 1841 entry for a John b 1821 living in Ogbourne with wife Ellen?

I have been trawling through your posts and notice you have John in 1871 - however you quote his age as 60 on this census - the image says 50. Am I looking at the correct John on this?

There are 2 Johns. My John born Wiltshire ??? around 1818-1825 is found in Scotland after 1853. I have all the records, census from then. The oher John Jennings is founder of the Jennings Fun Fairs whom someone suggested may be part of the same family as my own. Jeremiah just happened to be born in Ogbourne St G and being a name used often by my family, I sought to find a connection. Jerry was the nickname of those born Jeremiah in my family.
My John's parents were William Jennings and Anne, know nothing else. They may not even be from Wiltshire and have been travelling through in 1818-1825 when my John Jennings was born. I'd hoped the 1841 census would resolve the issue but alas so far no.
I don't even have living Jennings who may know. They vanished in Scotland too, although one grandson ran a Jennings Bus Company in Ayrshire till he died in 1947.
If I could only connect with a reseacher who has the Wiltshire Baptismal Records I might have something to go on. It's a lovely challenge but as you mention, very frustrating.
Very Best Regards

Hi
May not be connected ...
My great*3 grandparents were Joseph Jennings and Mary Attfield of Guildford, Surrey. Mary's step mother Henrietta left a will mentioning 'my niece Elizabeth Jennings of Chute, Wiltshire'. Possibly Henrietta was herself a Jennings?
Will is on London, England, Wills and Probate, 1507-1858
