I would appreciate it if someone could look up Maria Poole my g-g-g-grandmother ...supposedly born in England...I have her birthdate as February 4, 1845 and/or 1840...her parents were John Poole and Mary Hawkins. She may have been born in India...there is conflicting information.
Thank you so much!!!!

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you ...computer was down for a few days....what a great detective you are...can you please tell me what Worth, and Marple Cheshire is...a town? a region of England? and would 2158 Park Lane Brook Cottage be the address...how interesting a coal miner...now to figure out why they went to Australia...if this is the right family. Do you know how I could verify the information???is there somewhere else I should look for more Marias???? THANK YOU so much... you have been absolutely wonderful and I appreciate your finding out this information for me...
Cathy Lee 9 (the coal miner g-g-g-granddaughter?????)

:) Right see if i can put this down so it makes sense..... ;D This is the same family in 1861...Park Lane RG9 2574 (Same address)
John Poole Head 56 Banksman of coal (Pit) Marple Cheshire
Mary Poole Wife 45 Worth ''
Walter Poole son 24 Coal miner '' ''
Maria Poole dau 16 '' ''
Mary Ann Poole 13 '' ''
Charles Poole Deakin 2 grandson '' ''
John Henry Poole son 8 months '' ''
The other Maria Poole looks like this one....1861....RG9/2610 High Street Congleton Cheshire
Maria Poole unm 21 Servant Morton Cheshire
This is the Maria with Mother and Father John and Mary Poole
Maria PooleOct Nov Dec 1865 Macclesfield 8a 194 married James Davenport
and then in the 1871 Census......
Poynton Cheshire Park Lane RG10 3668
James Davenport Head 26 Coalminer Cheshire
Maria Davenport 26 Housewife Poynton Cheshire
William Davenport son 6 ''
Sarah Davenport son 4 ''
Thomas Davenport son 2 ''
Now i started to think that the other Maria could have been yours bur her mother and father were not called John and Mary. So if the initial Maria is yours she was still in Cheshire with her husband and children in 1871.
Park Lane 1881 RG11 3487 Poynton Cheshire
James Davenport Head 36 Small Wares Dealer (Silk) Wilmslow Cheshire
Maria 36 Wife Poynton Cheshire
Thomas Davenport son 12 Clothing Labourer ''
George Davenport son 9 ''
Annie Davenport dau 6 ''
James William Davenport son 3 ''
Laura Davenport dau 1 ''
And again in 1891......Park Lane RG12/ 2808 Poynton Cheshire
James Davenport 46 Baptist Minister and Grocer Wilmslow Cheshire
Maria Davenport 46 Grocer Poynton
Thomas Davenport 22 Railway Breaksman ''
William Phard Son in Law 29 Ag Lab Woodford
Sarah Phard dau 24 Poynton
James William Davenport 13 son Gen Lab ''
Laura Davenport 11 dau ''
Mildred 5 dau ''
Jessie Grand dau 4 ''
You say that you are working on info from the New Jersey 1910 census but did you have the maiden name only, as of course you knew her birth date or did you have any marriage details? Cheshire is a county in England. Marple, Worth and Poynton are towns and /or villages, and the numbers given are all reference numbers for the census details. All these details seem so far removed from New Jersey or Austrailia . But there only seemed to be those two Maria's and as i say the other one didnt have parents who matched your details that you knew :-\

Thanks Cherlye,
Will look at the information you have given me in more detail tomorrow(Tues)...Maria was in Skipton., Austraila in 1863...how and why she got there from England I don't know...I asssume that she went with her parents...married in New Jersey, USA on Dec. 17, 1869 to Edward Hilton...who I assume she meet here in the states!!!! They both arived in this country in 1868...but u can find not entry of the port...Ellias Island was not in operation...and thus far I can find no records at the other
New York port (Castle Harbor) that they may have come thru

:( Right back to the drawing board with that one then..... There was a Maria Poole born Jan Feb March 1845 born in Malmesbury which is in Wiltshire. Tracing back from that there were a few John Pooles that married in Malmesbury prior to that Maria being born but none of them married a Mary Hawkins. There were many John Pooles though in Wiltshire, which is my family history area, and starting in the 1830's many familys emigrated from these farming areas. The first exodus was in 1836. Maybe some of John Pooles family went at that time and he followed later ???

I wonder if Mary Hawkins was really her mother's maiden name...it was her husband (Edward Hilton) who entered the information on her death certificate...could he have been wrong...could it be misspelled...could she have been born in India as one of the Census papers states....what other tricks might I use to find her family.....as frustrating as it is...it becomes fascinating and compulsive to reveal the past!!!!
Thanks for all your help Cheryle...your a gem...and each e-mail I think here it is...the answer...someday maybe if we are lucky!!!
Have a great day!!!
Cathy
