Hello all researchers.
Is there anyone "out there" interested in the LUCAS surname and related connected surnames from Southam and Coventry from 1700+?
I still have lots of gaps and would love to chat with people who have such an interest.

Hello
My ancestor Joseph Lucas, baptised at St John, Coventry 14 Aug 1805, a poor child of the parish in Coventry was presumably the grandson of Martin & Honor Lucas of Southam, Warwickshire. He was apprenticed as a weaver in Coventry and married Elizabeth Scott. However I discovered last month that he was given three years hard labour for stealing and later stole again and was comitted at Warwick Assizes and transported to Tasmania and died in Victoria, Australia and was buried Port Fairy Cemetery 24 Dec 1871. I found this info on the Mormon IGI site and wrote to the descendants in Australia who have give me dates and full details. He married another convict, and his former wife married an Edward Lynch in Coventry because after seven years she would be deemed a widow as he was tranported for life. His daughter Harriet from the first marriage married my ancestor Henry Atkins in Coventry.
If you want to know more let me know.

Hello anyone interested in this line.
I am still trying to find out about what happened to Henry, Thomas, Jane and Lydia - children of Martin and Elizabeth [Dyer] Lucas, all born say between 1805 and 1815 - don't have exact dates in front of me.
Would love to know who they married etc.
There must be many Lucas descendents in Coventry now connected to this line of LUCAS - but - how does one link up, - especially as I am in Australia?
always hoping

Hello
I am a LUCAS researcher/descendent and I am interested in the reference to Martin LUCAS being from Tutbury.
I was told this once before but could never get any evidence then and so put the whole quest aside.
Now you have sparked my interest.
Can you give any more details on Tutbury - and - how you fit into the LUCAS line.
I did see your reference to SNELL- that's linking in to my researches.

Hi,
Well I got most of my info on Martin Lucas and him being from Tutbury on

www.archives.tas.gov.au
Joseph and Mary had 7 kids, one was Annie(hannah)Lucas b.1844 in Tasmania who married John martin Snell from Sudbury, Suffolk, in VIC, Aust.
John and Annie had at least one child of which was Alfred Snell b.1862 VIC
Alfred married Isobella Harris b.1863 VIC
Alfred and Isobella had 12 children, one of which was Ethyl Snell b.1894 VIC
Ethyl married Patrick Flannery b.1889 VIC
Ethyl and Patrick had 6 children, one was Dorothy Ethyl Flannery b.1914 VIC
Dorothy married Alfred John Owen b.1910 VIC

Renae if you look back to my posting for 30 Dec 2006 on this page, I think you will find we are descended from the same Joseph Lucas transported from Coventry to Tasmania and died in Victoria Australia (laterly a hairdresser). I have copies of the Broadsheet on which Joseph's conviction and deportation appear. Let me know by PM if you are interested. Best wishes

I'd love any information you have about this branch of the Lucas family. I have lots of information about Joseph. I'm really interested in his family back in coventry prior to this. I haven't worked out how to send people messages on this forum.

Anyone out there? Very interested in this branch of Lucas's, the Rumballs and the Snells who are also tricky to trace back in England
