It has been said for four generations in my family "Remember, you're a Moore of Mountrath." Of course, I know that families can screw things up so I have been looking for proof. I recently "found" family members that my family had never met (they in the UK and we in the US) and they were told that they came from Mountrath. At that point, I knew that there was more to this than pure lore.
Alas, having just received a report from an Irish researcher, there are no records of my Moore's in either the Catholic or Church of Ireland records (though I've now learned that they were Episcopalian for sure). I am absolutely at a standstill!
Below are things I'm fairly certain are facts on my ancestor Denis Moore. (I'm sorry this is so long) Would anyone recommend a path now that they are absent from church records in Mountrath?
I can't thank you enough for any advice!
Brenda

There are still many Moore's in Mountrath, in fact it is name local to the area.
Has your researcher looked at the parish's around Mountrath , in particular Camross or Castleton -Offerlane. They are not on FHC films
I would suggest that you put a message on the surname register

Take a look at www.irishmidlandancestry.com
I hope this helps

The Moore's formerly O'Mores were once an important family

Hi Jack,
Thanks for yoru email. No, not a lick closer. A researcher checked the parish records for Mountrath and couldn't find them either. I guess they were from some other part of Queens County, but I wouldn't begin to know where to look. I guess my ol' brick wall is now two layers!
Best regards,
Brenda
