Hi cj,
I have a Downton marriage for Elizabeth Crook to Charles Mussell, 29 May 1819. They had one daughter, Elizabeth, born 1 Aug 1824. The mother died on the day of the child's birth and the child died 11 Dec 1824.
A sad story.
John Crook, age 22, son of William Crook, married Elizabeth Webb, age 23, daughter of Jonas Webb, at Downton, 3 Nov 1838. I do not know anything about the rest of their lives.
These seem to be the only intersecting people in my extended family.

Gday Venali
Havent heard of any crook family going from Aldershot to Australia im afraid do you have any more info on the family though, some names and dates possibly so i can keep an eye out for them while im searching the crook name.
Have you found the family on the English censuses or do you have a possible period for when they came to Australia and if they all died in New Lambton.
Cheers CJ

Hi
I am a descendant of a Ann Crook born 1806 married 1 Charles Parsons, 2 Samuel Vick. I'm from the Parsons side. Their son also Charles came to Australia. Is this the same Crook family?
Her 2 marriage produces 4 children. I do know for sure of Ann's birthpalce or parents, but she married 1, in Whiteparish, the Parsons came from the Farley area.
Lokk forward to a reply.
Thanks Marj

Hello
Does anyone have any information on Thomas Crook ? Born abt. 1788 Wiltshire, wife unknown ? Most likley worked in the clothworker industry. May have moved to london Abt. 1842. One son I am sure about James born abt. 1820, Married 1842 to harriett Burgess March 1842 in London. James was a Tailor. James died abt. 1850 in Middlesex.
Son of James and Harriett Edward living with Family? in 1851 Census.

Hi Mary,
I have looked on the LDS site for Thomas and see that the IGI has two submitted records for that name in that year. One is a birth, reputed to have been at Hale, Hampshire, which is very close to Downton but just over the County Boundary. The other is a marriage at Whiteparish, Wiltshire, another place which is very close to Downton.
The records from both those places are available from the LDS for the event and time frames listed.

Hi there CJ,
I'm following up a CROOK family from Wiltshire.
Elizabeth CROOK B 1804 daughter of Richard & Betty CROOK of Avebury Wiltshire.
Elizabeth CROOK married Thomas GALE in 1827 Clyffe Pypard, Wiltshire. I am descended from their son William Crook Gale who came to Australia in 1853.
Do you see any possible connection to your CROOKs?
Thanks Hilary, Melb.

Hi Cj. I was born a Crook back in 1952, I'm a direct descendant of Steven and Eliza Crook (nee Forder) via their son Jocelyn who was my great great grandfather. He travelled to Wimbledon and some of his descendants still live in the area.

Hello,
I did know Stanley Crook who worked at the Tannery in Downton. He volunteered at the Swanage Railway (this would be in the 1980s onward). The Railway also benefitted when the tannery closed down, via Stan....
