Have just registered and would appreciate any help to trace parents my 6G grandparents, Patrick Donaldson and Margaret McRaw.
According to FamilySearch, they were married 10 Nov 1767 in Monzievaird And Strohan, Perth. Have not been able to go back any further. Patrick was born about 1742.
One possibility is that Patrick's parents were Alexander Donaldson and Margaret Drummond but this has not been verified.
Thanks from Vancouver, Canada

Hi Donald
There is a christening entry for a Patrick Donaldson to parents Alexander D and Margaret Drummond on IGI:
PATRICK DONALDSON Christening: 23 MAR 1746 Monzievaird And Strowan, Perth, Scotland
Parents: Father: ALEXANDER DONALDSON Mother: MARGARET DRUMMOND
This entry is an actual extract from the OPRs (Old Parish Registers).
I've searched for siblings using just the IGI batch codes for this area and couldn't find any more. There were a number of other entries for Donaldson children with father Alexander but a different mother.
Following Patrick D and Margaret McRaw's marriage in 1767, I can only see one child showing for them on IGI (extracted entry from the OPRs):
ELISABETH DONALDSON Christening: 07 FEB 1768 Monzievaird And Strowan, Perth, Scotland
Parents: Father: PATRICK DONALDSON Mother: MARGARET MC RAW
Regards.

Thankyou Monica
The dates you found all seem to tie in nicely. Our tree shows Elisabeth Donaldson married Peter Donaldson on 15 Apr 1797 in Monzievaird Church and there is some speculation that they were cousins.
Peter, my 5G grandfather was born 26 May 1770 in Alyth but none of us can trace his parents. Would appreciate your help on this too.

HI John (sorry about the Donald earlier!)
I can see on IGI:
PETER DONALDSON Christening: 26 MAY 1770 Alyth, Perth, Scotland
Parents: Father: JOHN DONALDSON
Again this is an extracted entry from the OPRs. Unfortunately only the father's name was recorded on this entry which is a pity.
Regards.

John
I've checked IGI births using just the batch code for Alyth and father John Donaldson and got the following entries. In all case, the father was the only one showing, no mother's name. These could be siblings to Peter, or other Donaldson births which just happened to have father John also.
1. JEAN DONALDSON Christening: 15 MAR 1772 Alyth, Perth, Scotland
2. JOHN DONALDSON Christening: 04 APR 1766 Alyth, Perth, Scotland
3. HELEN DONALDSON Christening: 16 DEC 1767 Alyth, Perth, Scotland
4. PETER DONALDSON Christening: 26 MAY 1770 Alyth, Perth, Scotland
5. MARJORY DONALDSON Christening: 04 SEP 1774 Alyth, Perth, Scotland
Batch Number: c113285
Regards.

Thanks again Monica
Children of Peter and Elizabeth match except for David who is new to us. We expected them all to be born around Muthill but I note that David's birthplace, Blairgowlie is close (6 miles?) to Ayth where Peter was born. With all the details on dates that you supplied we are hoping it will be easier for us to trace these relatives.
I have posted two other messages about other branches of the family: Donald Macdonald m. Campbell 1871, Inverness
John Dingwall m. Bain 1813, Ross and Cromarty
and am hoping for details on them.
Next step will be a trip to Scotland for some first hand research!

I was interested in your link to Patrick Donaldson and Margaret McRaw and their wedding in 1767.
I also have a similar surname link to Perthshire and I wondered if you had any further information on the McRaw side.
I have a Jane or Jean McRae on my tree. She spells her name various different ways - MacRae / MacCraw / McCraw
She was married to a John Doctor but I am not sure where - probably between 1800 - 1810. However, all of their children were born in Cargill.
Jane/Jeam's father was Donald MacRae and he could be a related to your Margaret - probably as a child if there is a link.
Jane / Jean was born in ABT 1784 which would make her fathers dob ABT 20-30 years earlier. - say 1754/1764 which fits in with your dates.
Does any of this ring a bell with you?

Sorry JohnMcrae
Have not been able to confirm if there is a link between your Jean Mcrae and my Margaret McRaw but will let you know if anything clicks as the research continues.

Thats a shame.
I went down from Inverness to the Dundee library a couple of weeks ago to look up various Dundee connections and also to have a look at their Perthshire files, but could find no further mention of the ones I am researching.
Just need to keep looking
thanks for answering
