I wonder if anyone could help me, James Harkup (sometimes spelt Harckup, or Harcup) Married Minster 1849 Son of .............. (left blank) So illegitimate?
1851 census gives him as age 27 born Eastchurch Isle of Sheppey - I have the KHFS CD ROM that covers Isle of Sheppey for that time - no trace of his birth there. Would anyone know if a copy of the Parish Registers will be at Eastchurch? Any ideas, advice gratefully received. Thank you.

Hello Caroline
Most of the parish records can be found at Sheerness Library. I had a quick look at the 1841 census for Eastchurch. There is only 1 Harcup family living in the village, William 45, Matilda 35, Hannah 10 & Jane 9 months. HO107/472/13 folio 20 page 2, though it had been transcribed as Harcuss.

Thank you Sarajane
I wonder if James could have been their son, he'd have been about 17 and could have been working somewhere on a farm, do you think that is likely? - Thank you for the information about Sheerness Library. I live in Devon so will contact them to see if they have a research service.
Many thanks

Hi Caroline
If you are still looking for a baptism for James HAR(C)KUP, it may be helpful to know that there is a lookup offer for the Eastchurch parish registers on the Kent Lookup Exchange
