I have just down loaded a copy of Infranview.
Haven't finished the installation process yet as I reached the part where there is a whole list of boxes to tick or not.
When I tried a differant site to download the other day, all the boxes were ticked and then I tried to download a Plug in and thats all that kept coming up!(It seemed to have overwritten Infranview)
I'm not very good at this obviously and need help please.

Springbok,
The dialog you are seeing gives you a chance to specify which types of files will be automatically opened in Irfanview when you click on them in Windows explorer. You don't have to select anything at this stage, you can do it from the properties dialog later.
There should be a button on the dialog to select just the image types Irfanview supports which is what I usually select. You can always change this later.
Once you have the main program installed, install the plugins. You will need some of these for some of the more obscure formats.

Thankyou Adrian,
Will try it that way and come back later if I get stuck again.
Still don't understand why the first attempt with a Plug in didn't work , but that can come later.

Installing the plug ins is relatively straightforward .... although it gives the impression of overwriting the original installation this isn't actually happening. Possibly you had a corrupted download.
The stages of installing Irfanview are
1 double click on installation
2 first selection screen .... basically asks if you want desktop icons created
3 next selection screen asks which file types graphics and audio you want irfanview to deal with automatically ..... select as many or as few (even down to zero) as you wish.
4 this latest version adds the option to install a google search bar on your machine .... its not necessary for the program
5 click on through the rest of the installation
plug ins.... double click on downloaded file it comes up with the irfanview location from last installation of program click on ok
Irfanview should be ready to use.
