My dad passed away on 8/2/2006 and the wrong second name of his father is on his death certificate. (Queensland Austrtalia) Does anyone know if they will change it. I am going to ring BDM's tomorrow. My brother supplied the info as far as I know. You would not think in this day and age that these mistakes could still happen. Cheers Aussiedale

I think yes they amend it when you notify them, and next time they update the ledgers it's shown as having been amended. My great great grandfather's surname is wrong - it's shown as GIESON rather than GIESEN, and I found the entry for my marriage was wrong - our name was down as Bifland or something instead of Bigland - it does happen sometimes and they just put it right when you tell them.

They should definately amend it if you contact them. My Great-Grandfather's birth certificate was amended over 50-years after his birth when it was realised they'd got the surname wrong...there's notation on it detailing the change, date of change, and the informant of the mistake, which was his elder brother.

One of my Friends has an ammended certificate
The offending mistake is crossed out and the
ammendment is written underneath with a
counter signature.
