Title: Walter Longhurst & Bethia March, Capel
Post by: dawnsh on Sunday 30 April 06 22:49 BST (UK)
I've been doing my trees now since 2000 and have never found information on the Ancestry site that I did not already know or didn't have to pay for, UNTIL NOW.

Just doing a 'random' seach on ancestry.co.uk parish & probate records with Bethia March and the county of Surrey above gives a return of a record along with Walter and 2 Vaughans on the 2nd page of listings. Now I'm intrigued and feel really cheeky in asking if someone who has paid their membership can have a look at this and see what it is and let me know.

Thanks in advance

Hi Dawn

There is a marriage of Walter Longhurst & Bethier March in the Abinger, Wotton Oakwood Parish Register.
19 Sep 1809, both of the parish. Witnesses were Jane Vaughan and Edward Vaughan

There appears to be some earlier Walter Longhursts in the same parish, one who married Sarah Cook in 1767, and one who married Hannah Pullenger in 1788, with some baptisms of Walter & Hannah's children.

Cheers

Dawn, if you want further help with Capel, please let me know as I have the parish registers, 1653-1840.

Hi Koromo

Thanks for the look-up. I'm a little disappointed as I already knew about the marriage, so again nothing new for me to subscribe to on Ancestry :-(

Hi Jane

Thanks for the look up offer. May take you up on it in the future.

Hi Dawn,
I wonder if we are looking at the same line. My great, great grandmother was Charlotte Longhurst b in Capel in 1814, married in 1840 and d in1879.

Hello Arvon

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

There are many Longhurst families in Surrey, a lot though are related. My line (Walter & Bethia) definitely goes back to the 1650's, I'm missing a vital baptism to take me back further.

Do you know Charlotte's parents?

Dawn

Hi Dawn,
Unfortunately not, though a guess would be that Walter Longhurst married in Capel in 1808 could be a possible candidate.

I am trying to find out more about Richard Jordan who was Charlotte's husband and more importantly his father Charles Jordan both of whom were residents of Capel.

best wishes,
Arvon

Hi Arvon

To find out her father's name, you should try to get a copy of her marriage certificate to Richard Jordan which took place according to Freebmd June 1/4 1840 in Epsom registration district. You can order the certificate from the GRO at Southport with the reference numbers on freebmd (vol 4 pg 105)

The marriage can also be found on the IGI (International Genealogical Index) actually at Epsom Parish on 22 April 1840 but no father's name is shown.

www.familysearch.org (for the IGI)

The parish registers for Capel have been transcribed and can be searched at the familysearch site

You can see the batch numbers and the dates covered here

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountySurrey.htm#C

scroll down to Capel.

From my own reseach, I know the transcriptions are incomplete, I do have other sources, (but not Epsom) if you need any help.
