I am trying to establish the housing conditions that miners lived in between 1871 and 1906 in the environs of Baillieston (Glasgow) in the District of Old Monkland with particular reference to the following streets: Ferries Land 7, Braehigh (or Braehead) Farms, Fotheringhams Square and Society Row. Any information or advice where I might research would be appreciated.

I was recommended this excellent site for my researching my mining ancestors. It has a couple of sections mentioning Baillieston/Old Monkland housing but not the exact places your looking for

Hi Sirius and Cambusnethan,
If either of you think you may have ancestors buried in either Baillieston Old Parish or St. John's Churchyard in Baillieston give me a shout. I have Burial Records for both of them + photos & MI's for all existing stones.

Anne,
Thanks for the look-up offer. The two relatives who may be buried in the church yards you mentioned are:
Thomas Morrison c1838 - 18 Apr 1901.
Isabella Morrison (nee Allan) c1834 or c1836 - 30 Jul 1973.

Hi Cambusnethan,

Hi Sirius,
Sorry, can't find them.
They're definately not in St. John's as I have a copy of all the records from as early as 1850.
As for the Old Parish Churchyard, I have a copy of MI's taken by a Mrs Jenny Gilmour in the 1960's (approx.) and I re-did them recently but no sign there either.
There are other Morrison's but I don't know if any of them would be related to yours. Let me know if you want a wee note of them and I'll send them on.

Thanks Anne it was worth a try. If you could be bothered sending me the other Morrisons I would be grateful as there might just be a connection.

No probs Sirius,
I'm attempting to attach a pdf but I don't have a very good record for attaching things!
If it doesn't work, send me a Private Message with your personal e-mail and I'll send it through.
