I am looking for any information on Robert Valentine MOODIE, who according to his Canadian Expeditionary Force Attestation Paper (http://data2.archives.ca/cef/gpc011/502836a.gif) was born in Glasgow on 14 February 1886. I would like any sightings, including the 1891 and/or 1901 Census, and a birth/baptism record, which might tell me who his parents were, as well as the names of his siblings, please.
Prior to emigrating to Canada "Bob" Moodie, as he was known, served for four years in the 1st Dunbartonshire M.I. (I'm not sure what the "M.I." stands for, but M is probably Militia). He enlisted in the Canadian Army Service Corps in Winnipeg, Manitoba, along with my grandfather Charles Leslie Lionel Payne (1892-1975) and Scottish friend, George Henderson Willox (1886-1970), on 11 November 1914. All three served together for most of the war in the Canadian Machine Gun Corps (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brett/cmgc/cmgc.html), and you can read of my ongoing research into their WW1 experiences on my ongoing blog Grandpa's War (http://grandpaswar).
Any information, advice or other help will be very gratefully received.
Regards and best wishes,

Hi there,
If you have a look on the www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk website, you should be able to view his birth certificate and 1891/1901 census records. You should also be able to find his parents marriage certificate on the same site and, depending on how old his parents were when he was born, their birth certificates also (civil registration started in 1855 in Scotland).
Cheers,
Clare

Thank you, Clare. I'm aware of that site.

My mother was a Moodie. Robert was my grandfather's brother.

Brett & Poidasdad,
There is a tree on Ancestry named the Moodie Tucker tree. In 1891, the family is living at Springhill House, Cathcart, Renfrewshire. The head of the family is John Moodie, 56, a Commercial Traveller, born Bonhill, Dunbartonshire. His wife is Jane, 48, [maiden name Mowbray, 1841-1928], who was born in Ireland. Robert V Moodie is aged 5. There are 15 people on this census.
In 1891, the family is at 181 Queens Drive, Cathcart.
Robert V is now 15.
Do either of you already have the full information?
P.S. The birth certificate for Robert Valentine Moodie in 1886 is there on Scotlands People, but you won't find it under Glasgow. It is under Renfrewshire. The south of Glasgow has a border with Renfrewshire, so it appears he was born or registered just at the edge of the Glasgow boundary.

Brett,
I am the owner of the Moodie Tucker tree on Ancestry. Robert was my great-grand uncle. I've just joined rootschat in search of additional information.
I've collected quite a bit of information over the last few years on Ancestry. Would be glad to share all info and family pictures that were passed down to me as well. I am in search of clues as to who all of them are.
Thanks so much,
Sandra Moodie Tucker
