Hi Vanda,
I can see your problem and it does seem likely that James was born in Llangeitho - a parish 8 miles north east of Lampeter in Cardiganshire - the difficulty probably caused by the census enumerator trying to write an unfamiliar sounding name phonetically.
I checked the 1841 census for Llangeitho but could not find him, so perhaps he had already moved.
Sorry I can't be of more help but I think you would have to go to the parish records.   You could try the National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth at http://www.llgc.org.uk/ who hold records for the whole of Wales or the Ceredigion Record Office http://archifdy-ceredigion.org.uk/  who hold records for Cardiganshire.   The ladies are very helpful  :)
Cheers Dave

Thank you Dave,

I'll try the Ceredigion Record Office - thanks

Hi Vanda,

A quick check on the 1841 England census has this family still living in Ashton-under-Lyne. FYI!
