I am trying to find out the parentage of Louisa Attwater born c1850 in Grazeley or Shinfield, Berkshire, who can be found in the 1851 1861 and 1871 census records living with her grandparents John and Louisa Attwater.
Has anyone researched this family and know the answer to this one?
Thank you.

There are a number of possibilities, including Lucy who was one of her aunts. There is also an aunt Charlotte who was still unmarried and would have been 14-15 years old. There are also two other grandchildren who appear in the census details (Albert born 1859 and Henry born 1854) and I have not found their parents. Louisa called her first-born George, so was uncle George her father from an earlier relationship? There are possibilities with a number of the aunts and uncles, and one reseacher has suggested there was another aunt/uncle unnamed who perhaps died and these could have been his/her off-spring.
I was hoping to find a direct link family member who had perhaps researched deeper into the family than I have so far reached.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Craftycorner,
I hope to help with this one as my surname is Attwater. This family can be found on the 1841 census at:
HO107/29/10, Folio 7, Page 35 and HO107/29/10, Folio 8, Page 36
District: Wokingham, Sub-District: Wokingham
Lambeth Hill, Shinfield, Berkshire
Missing from the 1851 census are Lucy age 11, William age 9, Sarah age 7 and Susannah age 4.
Lucy can be found in the 1851 census at:
HO107/1681, Folio 177, Page 1, Household 2
District: Basingstoke, Sub-District: Basingstoke
Church Street, Basingstoke, Basingstoke, Hampshire
She is a general servant. Ages are not given for the deaths at this point in history but it looks like William died in 1850. He would have been about 18. Sarah would have been about 17 during the 1851 census and is a possibility of being the mother?
The mother Louisa (who by the way is listed as Lucy in 1841) looks like she died in 1860. Daughter Lucy looks like she may have come back home to help her father. It is quite possible that all three grand children are hers.
The only way to be sure at this point is to order the birth certificate.
I hope that this has been useful and hasen't confused you research further.

Hi - sorry to take so long to get back to you and thank you.
I have settled at the moment on the following:
I think Louisa had three children out of wedlock:
Louisa 1850
Henry 1854-1924
Albert G F 1859
I have not ordered birth certificates yet to confirm these.
I also think Louisa married Michael Bailey in 1868 in Wokingham but that there were no children from this marriage.
If anyone thinks any differently on the above, please let me know.
