Hi migky

If he died in hospital/nursing home would they have record of undertakers who dealt with the body? Can you contact informant on death cert? If they registered death probably organised funeral etc.
Might be worth letter to local papers to see if person still around if moved from address on cert.

hello migky
on the death certificate it should state were he was resident at time of death and the relationship of the person who registered his death, if he was found dead at home for instance a policeman could have registered his death or the coroner and the local coroners officer in salford would have tried to find relatives, if no relatives are found, he may have been cremated, but his ashes should still be retained by the crematorium,or the funeral director unless instructed to scatter his remains in a garden of remembrance.
if you contact the crematorium office for the area in which he was living, they maywell be able to give you information on the funeral director and what happened to his remains
-
i have tryed all of the above ,but nothing
-
if you have a death certificate then he is tracable
what information is on his death certifcate
-
i have the address of where he died ,but now the house is ready for pulling down.i have the name of the informant, but can not trace him.
-
if he died at home and his death was sudden, he would have had to have a post mortem (by law) hence he would have been taken to the mortuary in the area in which he lived, once the body is removed from the mortuary a funeral director has to sign the mortuary book, so he is tracable via a funeral director, and if he was cremated a record is kept at the crematorium, who the funeral director was and the date of cremation and whether the ashes are to be retaned for collection by the funeral director.
if there was no money available and there was no one to arrange his funeral and he died at home, the local council will arrange the funeral and expences, if he died in hospital then the hospital bereavement department arrange the funeral
-
Does it say a Parish on the certificate,or if you don't mind people knowing what road it was someone might be able to suggest something with their knowledge of that area

It might be worth checking electoral roll for year before his death -you may be able to trace neighbours or other persons living at the same address who had knowledge of him.

-
::) don't mean to sound ungrateful, but have tried all these.
-
Hi micky it's me (Sharon). You might have covered this already, but do you think he could have had a church funeral before burial? It's not that long ago so the church might have records.
The nearest churches to Gt Cheetham St would be St John C of E (Murray St), St James C of E (Gt Cheetham St East), or St Thomas of Canterbury Roman Catholic (Gt Cheetham St East).
-
You say you've tried everything !...... maybe he was cremated - that's the cheapest way these days ! - you might have to talk to the rose bushes in the Garden of Rememberance - the way I do !!
You might also think about ... if he was in the service - you may be able to get his service records or pension records !
Annie :)
-
thanks annie ,you got no chance of me talking to any rose bush ;D ;D ;D people think i am mad as it is ;) off to salford history centre on friday .i will dig the old man up there i hope :D
-
thanks annie ,you got no chance of me talking to any rose bush ;D ;D ;D people think i am mad as it is ;) :D
I thought that too !! ..... you'd be amazed at how many people talk to rose bushes .......... !! ;)
Another thing I was thinking ( ::) ) ...... we lived in Liverpool but my rose bushes are in Widnes !! -
possibly your Dad could be out of the Manchester area !
Annie :)
-
don't think he is,he lived there in salfod for over 25 years .now why would you want to up root a man and move him to some where nobody knew him :)
-
Just a thought, do you know where his parents were buried?
There may be a chance that he could have been buried with them. My grandmother's and grandfather's ashes are buried in my grandfather's sisters grave.
Good luck for Friday! Hope you find him!
-
We went to Widnes - 'cos that was the only place that had room ...... at that particular time ::) ::)
but I'd be interested to see what Salford has .... let us know !!
Annie :)
-
how do you mean" what salford has"why, are you looking for a place to rest your bones soon :D
-
thanks chui ,but dont think he would be with grandperants. they are in ireland and he never went back there
-

-
hey annie, just in case i do find him in a bed of rose's. i will go to the stables and get a bucket of the horse stuff lol be the first time he came up smelling of rose's
-
If you don't have any luck in Salford, try Philips Park and Southern cemetry(the films are at Central Library) I looked at them both recently and people from all over Manchester were at Philips park (I was looking circa 1900) and from all over the country at Southern cemetry (I was looking 1930's and 1960's)
-
cheers andy lol but yes i have tried them too. tried moston /gorton you name it i tried it lol but thanks . said i need a sherlock ;)
-
If you know his place and date of death - try Colindale - they have all the newspapers from all over England - send them an email and see what happens !!
it's not free - but depending on how badly you want the information .... it's worth a shot !!
http://www.bl.uk/collections/newspapers.html
Do you know who registered the death ?
Annie
-
Just back from salford family history center, but no Luck . looked in local paper for that year ,but nothing .oh well not to worry.i still have a few things to check out . told you i needed a sherlock ;D ;D ;D
-
Oh no, sorry to hear you couldn't find him ..... don't give up, his burial has to be registered somewhere!
Follow up any ideas even if they seem impossible!
Good luck!
-
well where ever he is ,he ain't going any where ;) so he will just have to wait till i find him ::) Just spoke to priest at church only 25 yards away from where he lived .he said he did not carry out his funeral.so if you all could do me a big favor and look in your bins /gardens and sheds cos he got to be some where
-

I'd still check it out .... you never know!
A friend of my mum's has just lost both of her parents. They were both Irish and left there over 50 years ago. But in September, she is taking their ashes back over to Ireland to be buried.

My name isn't Sherlock Holmes, but perhaps it's the name of someone working here:
http://www.salford.gov.uk/living/bmd/deaths/funeral-prices.htm
If you scroll down to the bottom (OTHER FEES AND CHARGES), it lists Family Grave Searches- where records are inspected over a 2-year period.
Cost= 25 pounds.
Very pricey, I think :-\, - but if you have an exact date of death, you may be able to throw yourself on their mercy and see what they come up with.
On the other hand, you may consider it cheap at the price, if it means that you can then stop having sleepless nights wondering where on earth he is!!!!!!!!

many thanks ukgirl.but i have tried all the cemerteys with no luck.the correnors office phone me today and they have tried the same .they have not been much use said the records could be distroyed . my new found family in ireland sent me a pictuter of him when he was abot 25ish. he looks like a cross between paul newman and clark gable, but without the big ears ;) my scanner is broken so can not scan it but took pic of pic .

Wow- that's fabulous.
A name on a page can now really come to life.
It's a miracle that you have received a picture of him. Congratulations. :)
However, all those people who have checked something for you regarding his grave, and come up negative, may- or may not ???- have actually checked.
Believe it or not, but there are actually a few people out there who cannot be bothered to check carefully, and we are at their mercy. As more and more people are searching for something, I guess that more and more staff are getting more and more irritated.
Perhaps you should simply go back to square one and have another thorough methodical search.
It's unfortunately probably the case that when you actually pay some money, you can probably trust the result, since the staff will be more careful as it then becomes "work" rather than simply "helping someone out".
Recently I read of someone who had searched high and low for a burial, only to find that he was buried in the first place that she had contacted. They had simply given her the wrong information, for whatever reason. Imagine if she had not double checked...she would never have found him.
That link that I gave you for Salford is worth contacting, if only to find out how they do their search, and which places they actually search. It's easy to conclude that you have searched everywhere, when perhaps you haven't.
Anyway, just some food for thought ;)
Best of luck,
UKgirl

I am so pleased for you. It's really good news.
And that makes 2 people whom I have read about who have found someone in a cemetery after first being told that he was not there.
There's a lesson there somewhere, and hope out there for the rest of us.
I hope that you will treat yourself to a nice glass of something, tonight to celebrate.
And we will all be expecting a picture of the gravestone in the near future.

-
WOW...............migky, you are a darling. :-* :-* :-*
Is that really my St. Mary's? It's a wonderful photo. Quite unrecognizable from the one on their homepage!!!
I am SO excited. I can even claim the founder of this church as one of my rellies!! What do you think about that?? (not a blood relative, but through marriage, I should in all honesty add :P).
But, whatever........
That's where they all worshiped, that's where they all lived, and that's where they are all buried.
Except, of course, for the very one that I am looking for >:(
But, still, I feel that like you, I am getting closer by the day.
Lots of hugs and kisses, not to mention thanks,
UKgirl

Hi, Did you try the Manchester Morgue, to see if they had any information.
old queen
-
hi queen ,i don't know if you read all the post on here but i found where he is laid to rest.
thanks migky
-
HI there
Are you positive he was buried?
An awful lot of people nowadays are cremated.
Have you tried the local newspapers of the time-was there an obituary-it often gives the funeral arrangements.
Who was the informant on the death cert-do they know anything.
Regards
Carol
