I have James' marriage certificate from October 1881, which gives his age as 24.
I'm wondering if the 1881 James is mine, and if he's the same as the one in the other censuses?
-
How does the occupation (for 1881) compare, and what was the address on his Oct 1881 marriage cert?
Pauline

On the marriage cert, all it says is Dyer living Heckmondwike. His father is George (Deceased), also a Dyer.
-
Since the James you have in 1881 is a Woollen Dyer living in Hedmondwicke and the father on the earlier censuses is George - I would think you have the same man throughout despite his somewhat erratic age. He's a lodger in 81 so his age may have been a guess by the head of household. His age does seem to vary some what from census to census anyway.

Thanks Jan. The only thing that made me wonder, was his age on the marriage cert where he claims to be 10 years youger than he should be lol
-
I suppose it could have been a mistake either on original entry or later? How old is his wife? if she's younger maybe he didn't want to appear too much older?
Jan ;)

She was born in 1860, so it is possible he lied.
They're such a nightmare family. He's not on any of the censuses with her lol

Some ancestors like to make life difficult :D
Happy hunting Jan ;)

Well Starry, if this is your family it looks like we are related.
George Siddle b1817 is my 1st cousin 5 times removed.
I have the tree in all directions back to the 1600's - All within the Wakefield area except one family who moved to Bradford in the early 1800's. Infact if was one of Georges uncles nephews - think thats right. Its hard working back and then coming forward.
Anything you want to know let me know. Also love to know where you fit in to the great scheme of the Siddle line.
regards
Carol

Hi Carol
It could well be that we are related :)
James, son of George, was married to my 2xGGrandmother. She had 2 children with him, then 5 more with a man who wasn't her husband. My GGrandfather was born a Crawshaw, but died a Siddle (hence my confusion!).
I am tracing both lines so I can give my Grandmother (who is a Siddle) the information on them (the Siddle line so she doesn't get upset lol). I can't decide which ones to keep in my tree, so I have both of them.
I'll PM you with my email details and some more information about what I know :)
