Hi Chris,
Happy Easter.
Thank you very much for the 1841 trans.I am sure you have the right family there as the children match with those on 1851.
Best Wishes

Chris,
you say they are the only family in Brede(I guess the father William must be somewhere else in Sussex) but are there any other Lavenders about in Brede as servants?
I am looking at the gap inbetween William and James and wondering if there are more children out at work somewhere.
Thank you

Sorry , but it is the only LAVENDER surname listed in the 1841 for either
Brede, Peasmarsh, Beckley, Northiam, Udimore, Icklesham and Winchelsea
which I think is a good area around Brede

Hi again
This is the one and only marriage of a Henry to an Elizabeth in Sussex about 1821.
Marriage:
Location: Guestling, East Sussex.
Date: 12 Apr 1819.
Groom: Henry LAVENDER.
Bride: Elizabeth TOLHURST
Will now have a look in Guestling to see if there are any Lavenders there in 1841

Hi again
There is only one entry for Lavender in Guestling, but it does not look very promising
HO107/ 1106/ 10 - Fiars Hill, Guestling
Lavender, Lucy, 55, Pauper
.............. David, 15, Ag Lab
Drop it on the back burner for future reference.

What an idiot I am ? - no other words for it.
When I found your Henry, Elizabeth and family; in the excitement I failed to notice that right next door was the following:
William Lavender, 75 - Ag Lab
Mary Lavender, 70
What am absolute plonker you must think I am.
Cant believe how I missed em
Anyway, sorry about that

Thanks, Chris in 1066Land!
I am an interested descendant of the couple:
Henry Lavender and Elizabeth Tolhurst
Married 1819 at Guestling
I believe their son James Lavender married Jane Weller
I came upon this archived post while searching on the term Winchelsea
I would like a swift way of checking on Surnames and local Placenames in Sussex...
