Hello all.
I have found a relative on the 1891 census by the name of Archibald Budden who is a police constable.
I would love toknow more about him but he drops off of the 1901 census, and I cannot find his birth details.
Does anybody have any knpwledge if old police records are available and where from?

Just discovered his brother Harry Budden became a constable in 1901 but at St Leonards on sea!
Any ideas for this one too?

Hi there,
Have a look at this site..... I've just had a quick look and there is a P.C.Budden mentioned in the major reports section of the Police Index.
www.lightage.demon.co.uk (http://www.lightage.demon.co.uk)
Best of luck.

Have you ever ordered one of these reports before?
I notice my report is titled "capture by" and you say the major incident reports. Are these really major incidents I wonder?

Hi there,
Have a read of the explanatory notes on the site. All will become clear. They define the terms used.
Yes,I've had two items from this site. They were both from the Minor Report section and consisted of a few lines from Police Review of the time. Not too exciting you may think but,to me,invaluable.

Hi,
The records for Gloucestershire Police and the various forces that have joined it over the years are held by the Gloucestershire Record Office.
See http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1348
They have a substantial holding of old police documents which you can see listed via the catalogue.
See here http://archives.gloucestershire.gov.uk/DServe/DServe.exe?dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Index.tcl
