Title: Kirk Sessions
Post by: Jeffrey on Wednesday 12 April 06 15:46 BST (UK)
My Gt, Gt grandmother Charters Jackson had two illegitimate children born in Torcoon, Nr Canonbie in 1855 and 1858.

She did not put the name of the father on the birth certificate, however Agnes, one of the daughters  went by the name of Agnes Armstrong when she was young and also put Armstrong down as her maiden names on her children's birth certificates. I believe that her father was an Armstrong from Torcoon. This is difficult to prove. I wondered if any one knew if there were Kirk Sessions records after 1855 in which Charters may have been mentioned for having  illegitimate children.

Were there any records of Baptism kept after 1855 in the Canonbie area?

If anyone knows I would be grateful for an answer also if they do exist where they are kept or any other ideas welcome.

Judy
