Hello Everyone.
Does anyone have the 1901 returns for Deptford, St Paul on CD? I can view the original document on line but extra family members have been entered after the form was filled in and I can't make out a name properly.
If someone can view Piece 531, Folio 5, page 1
My family is the Neve family - although they have been entered as Neeve.
There will be;
William (head)
Mary (wife)
Annie (dau)
William (son)
Amy Aldous (dau)
Herbert Aldous (son in law)
Written in faint writing above some of the names is Stanley and one other (aged 9) that I can't make out.
Some sites transcribe the information but the ones I have seen so far have broadly inaccurate transcriptions of the names that I do know so I cant trust them
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thank you Pam,
I had a hunch it was Ernest, glad someone else thinks the same.
Thank youfor your help and speedy reply.
Makes you wander why Stanley and Ernest were added in!
Thanks again

Hi Bozzer,
I had a quick look at the 1891 RG12/505 Folio 96 page 11
William P Neve - Head aged 46
Mary E Neve - Wife aged 44
Nellie Neve - Dau aged 21
Annie Neve - Dau aged 16
Amy Neve - Dau aged 15
William T or J Neve, Son aged 13
Stanley, son aged 9
Parent both born Cranbrook, Kent
Daughters all born in Camberwell
Sons in Deptford
On FreeBMD there is an Ernest Leonard Neve born Q2 Greenwich (which would include Deptford)
Hope this helps!

Thanks Karen (and Pam)
I traced the family a few years ago and have print outs of 1891 and 1901 but something made me look again at 1901. I knew that Stanley had been written in but I only spotted the other name this morning! (how stupid am 1?)
I've got to that frustrating stage (which I'm sure many of us are at) that I can't do much more until 2011 (or is it 1st Jan 2012??)
Annie was my GGrandmother and died young in 1911. William (father) died later in 1901 but as for the others - not a trace!
Thanks again

I have located two marriages:
Stanley Neve married Nellie I Blain in Dec Quarter 1917 1d 1907 Greenwich
Nellie L Neve married Charles H Silley in Mar Quarter 1911 2a 879 Medway
These could be yours - the parish records for Medway are on the web and will include 1911, if you are interested have a look at www.cityark.medway.go.uk - my husbands family are also from the same areas (Greenwich and Medway) so I have used this site a lot - I wish there were more like it!
Happy hunting :D

Wow - some interesting leads to follow up - thank you.
Nellie is a strange one as she shows on the 1881 and 1891 census as Nellie although her name was actually Eliza.
I know this to be true as William's death certificate shows informant as daughter, Eliza Neve. She shows on the 1901 census living elsewhere in London (as Eliza) and also her birth certificate. It makes you wander why people put nick names on something as official as a census return.
This is the only reason why I would query your suggestion for her marriage as I assume you would have to use your real name for registration.
For the sake of a few quid, I will order both certificates.
Thanks again for your help.
