Hi everybody,
I hope I am in the right place ;)
Can anybody tell me something about Beatties (Not sure of the spelling)
Was this shop in Birkenhead or Liverpool? Is it still there? What did it sell? And, best of all does anybody know who owned it?? Any snippet about the owner/s would be gratefully received as they are supposed to be distant relations of mine and I'm trying to think/work laterally in the hopes of finding a Charles Taylor dob 1860 8)

Hi Dotty
Beatties is all over England now, there has been a Beatties in Birkenhead since i was a child.Mum liked to shop there for my coats when i was about 8//12.I think at the time it was the Harrods of Birkenhead,or the posh shop ;D.Don't know how she managed to shop there because mum was a widow by the mid 40's and supposed to be skint by the 50's. Anyway Beatties is now owned by The house of Frazer.

( Sorry just checked the shortcut its a gif Wiil replace it)you would probably have to go in to the history of this once Family Shop. Or the easiest way to do both is to search around and see if you can find The history of Beatties Shops.
Happy Hunting Celia Having a problem dotty try this, one just found it. Typed in what i said.

Hi Dotty
I have been reading the interesting history of beatties,i had thought it was me that mum took to beattie. But it could not have been as it wasn't opened when i was that age.So it must have been my younger brother i was thinking about as he would have been around that age when the shop opened in Birkenhead.Wonder if she bought me anything :)

The was a store there in the same building before 1963, but under a different name - which I can't for the life me remember. I bet my old dad remembers though - I'll ask him next time we speak.

Hi All,
I think we may all be on the wrong track :-[
My mother worked at Beatties when she left school - sometime in the 1934-38s and so family talk has it she only got the job as they were part of the family!!!!!!!!!! :-[
She was born and lived in Liverpool until her marriage in 1941.
Beatties was in Birkenhead and seems to have opened later than those dates..
I'm sorry folks I will have to go back to the ancient aunt on one of her good days.

Hmmm. maybe not much help but the name came to me. I think Beatties used to be called Allinson's. Does that ring any bells?

Sorry - that should have been Allansons.
