i am looking for the service records for my great grandfather. from world war one. he was in the 2nd bn cameronians ( scottish rifles ) service number 266296. william brown killed in action 25/03/1918 he is in ham british cemetery, muille-villette he was age 32 his medals are victory medal, and british war medal i cant even get a death certificate for him. any help would be good. he joined the army when he was 18 years 7months old. so he was born 21/01/1885. i have his sign up paper but it is hard to read the paper is pink was that the colour in them days
i have his medals card. and how to get to the cemetery.the army did not know what happend to him i have got aletter dated 1920 telling my great grandmother that they still did not know what had happend to him
i have found out that the joining up age for the army in world war one was 19 years old to 38 years old. my great grandfather was 18years and 7month old when he joined the army and that was in 1903. so he would have been 29 years old when the war started and he was 33 when he got killed in action on 25/03/1918. i have his medal card he got two medals british war medal and victory medal. my great grandfather was missing in action as far as i have been told by my father the last letter my great grandmother got from the army and the red cross was in 1920. it was his army buddys that told the army where he was burried. so that is how we know where he is HAM BRITISH CEMETERY, MUILLE-VILLETTE. so all my great granmother got was his medals.

Unfortunately only about 25% of soldiers records from WW1 survived the bombing during WW2. The records are held by the National Archives at Kew.

I was lucky enough to obtain my great uncle's records but both of my grandfathers' records were destroyed.

Ham is a small town about 20 kilometres south west of St Quentin at the crossroad of the D930 St Quentin-Roye and the D937 Peronne-Chauny. The British Cemetery is in the village of Muille-Villette. From the town centre of Ham take the D932 in the direction of Noyon. The Cemetery is signposted from this road and is situated on the left hand side.
In January, February and March 1918, the 61st (South Midland) Casualty Clearing Station was posted at Ham, but on 23 March the Germans, in their advance towards Amiens, crossed the Somme at Ham, and the town remained in German hands until the French First Army re-entered it on the following 6 September. Ham British Cemetery was begun in January-March 1918 as an extension of Muille-Villette German cemetery, made by the Casualty Clearing Station. In 1919 these graves were regrouped and others were added from the German cemetery and from other burial grounds. Ham British Cemetery contains 485 Commonwealth burials and commemorations of the First World War. 218 of the burials are unidentified but there are special memorials to 14 soldiers, believed to be buried among them. Other special memorials record the names of 39 casualties known to have been buried in other cemeteries whose graves were not found.

yeah i would have thought so
first i should say i don't know much ( anything?) about the regiment but there's a couple on funnies
it's a 6 fig service number that you usually see on territorial battalions, but it looks like the 2nd battalion were regulars who went over in the BEF, he's also quite old ( relatively) to be going over post 1916
i'd like to see his MIC, if william would post it

The reason you can't find his death cert. is that it would be on the overseas section of the GRO, however I don't think it would be of much help as it would probably say what harribobs has already posted KIA and that's about it.
Have you got any other info about him, or can you clarify the info already posted? which might help us?

and what is a MIC
the date of his death is from the world war one site
and it is in the book at edinburgh castle
and in the book at the cameronians museum
and on his death certificate in new registery house edinburgh
