I am the county coordinator for FreeREG for Ross and Cromarty.
I am looking for volunteers who are interested in indexing/transcribing parish, baptism, marriage, and death records, from Ross and Cromarty.
It doesn't matter where you live you just have to be keen and reliable.
If you think you might be interested please email me at scalliewags101[AT]hotmail.com or visit http://www.freereg.org.uk/ for more info.
If census records is more your thing please visit FreeCEN Ross and Cromarty at http://www.rootsweb.com/~sctrocfc/ross_and_cromarty.htm
Or for all ongoing projects visit http://freeukgen.rootsweb.com/
I now have the OPR's for the following parishes ready for transcription (please ask if a parish you are interested in is not included)
ALNESS
AVOCH
CONTIN
CROMARTY
FODDERTY
GAIRLOCH
KILMUIR EASTER

Shirley: I would love to help - I live in Canada but don't have microfiche capabilities, just an ordinary computer. My ancestors are from Avoch.

Sadly for FreeReg (working with the old parish registers) you would need to own or have access to a microfiche reader, as well as the PC.
Micro fiche readers are pretty obsolete these days and can be got quit cheap on places like ebay. I don't know if you have a freecycle or free ads in Canada but may be someone would even donate one to a good cause. Mine was kindly given to me on longterm load from the Highland Library here in Scotland. It really is worth advertising if you are keen as places like garages used to use them but don't so much these days so I am sure there are plenty in the back of offices somewhere.
FreeCen (working with census) is different, all you need it a PC for that as the pages from the census are on disk.
Although I am county coordinator for FreeReg I also am a volunteer for FreeCEN, as I like to change about, and both help with my own research. What a thrill it is when you find an ancestor ;D Let me know what you think and drop me and email if you want to know more.
