Hi Ian,
http://www.northampton.gov.uk/site/scripts/documents.php?categoryID=1482
The link is to the website for the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery which houses a vast collection of shoes from history. They may have records of different companies that used to operate in the town.
Regards, Emma ;)

Dear Ian,
You posted this enquiry so long ago (4 years) that I suspect you may now be much further on with your enquiries.
However, just in case this was a dead end, I can tell you that if I've got it right, Alfred Allinson was my great-great-grandfather. I have a photograph of him somewhere.
I am the daughter of one of the last two co-proprietors of Allinson and Co., which unfortunately had to close down in 1981.
There is an excellent family tree of the Allinson family, reaching back several hundred years, which is unfortunately still in a removal carton, as I have just moved. Please feel free to get in touch if you are interested in more information.
Best regards
D. Winter
