Church End I think

Census book number is 2328

Perhaps the census enumerator just missed Richard off at the end of a hard day ... I see the person in the list above Priscila was another Priscila.

Hi Fiona,
I don't know if you have the answer by now, but I can tell you where Richard Biggadike was in 1861 in you don't already know.
I am a member of the Biggadike family.  I presume you know the details of Richard's death.
Cheers,
Pat.

Hello - this is a very old thread now but worth a try still.
My grandmother was a Biggadyke from Lincolnshire and I'm trying to find out if Richard Biggadyke was one of her ancestors. I can't find him on the 1861 census and wondered if anyone could help? I'd love to find a link.
Many thanks

Hi,
I have a great deal of information on the Lincolnshire Biggadike families from around the Kirton and Holbeach/Whaplode  areas of Lincs.
There are numberous Richard Biggadikes in my family.  Can you give me some dates or other names please.
Hopefully,  we can help each other.
Cheers,
Pat.

Hi Pat - I'm only really starting so delighted to receive your reply. My grandmother was Ethel Biggadike (1894 - 1972) who I remember really well. I've traced back and am rapidly finding that the Biggadikes generally had big families! The Richard I'm interested in at the moment is the 1830 - 1868 Richard - I've found information about Priscilla and would love to know if she's part of my greater family, and if the Richard she was hanged for killing was an ancestor of mine. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Thank you for this information. How exciting - I'd love to see the show, but as we live in Scotland it's rather a long way. I shall look out for reviews though.

Hi again,
Sorry I don't appear to know anything of your Ethel Biggadike.  Is this her maiden name or her married name?
If it is her maiden name, do you know who her parents were or where she was born?  I have had a look on the 1901 census and it could  have been Charles and Sarah, or George and Maud? If you give me a little more information I should be able to help you.
The Richard Biggadike you mention was the son of William Biggadike and Mary Burch who married in Holbeach Lincs in 1819.  My line is through James another of their sons.
This line mainly come from the Holbeach/Whaplode area of Lincolnshire.
You may be able to help me with a long standing problem with my line.  I have photographs of a Biggadike family who lived in Louth Lincs. and London.  They had two daughters.  Do you know anything of them?
Cheers,
Pat.

Does anyone know what happened to her children Fred & Alice?

Alice BIGADYKE 11 and Emma BIGADYKE 7 were both in Hundleby Workhouse in 1871 - birthplace of both given as Stickney.

Fred didn't make it to 1871, buried at Stickney aged 7.  :'(

My grandma Ethel Biggadike's father was Charles William 1866-1911, married to Sarah Alice Gray born 1961.
His father was Charles Biggadike 1837-1877, married to Mary Boyall born 1935.
His father was John Biggadike 1802-1868, married to Ann Spendla 1802-1887.
His father was William Biggadike 1775-1840, married to Elizabeth Swan 1776-1851.
His father was John Biggadike 1740-1805, married to Mary Sipkins 1743-1806.
His father was John Biggadike 1711-1786, married to Mary Bate 1711-1750.

Someone somewhere along the way had a pub in the Holbeach area I think - I'll check on that and get back to you. Can you see if there is any connection between us Pat? I'm sorry I don't know any Biggadikes in Louth or London.

Hope this helps
Ann

The pub that my Biggadike ancestors used to run was the Red Lion in Holbeach. I'm not sure how long ago - again will try to find that out.

Hi Ann,

Sorry to have taken so long to answer your post.

We do share the same family until John Biggadike and Mary Spikins.
My lot come down through John and Mary's son Thomas Biggadike c.1799.
Thomas married Susannah Smith.
Their son William and his wife Mary was the father of  Richard who married Priscilla, and my ancestor James.

It appears as though a few of the Biggadike families ran Inns.
One of them ran the Old Saracens Head in Whaplode.
Another Turnpike Bell Inn at Moulton

A couple of generations of Biggadikes also ran the Moulton Mill before it closed in 1995.  The last one being John Thomas Biggadike b. 1929.  I believe his father John Thomas Biggadike b.1896 had bought the the Mill.

Cheers,

Pat.

Many many thanks for your help Pat - I think I've established that the Richard Biggadike who was Priscilla's husband was my 2nd cousin 4 times removed. I'm delighted to discover this link. I haven't yet worked out what relation you and I must be but it would be good to find out!

Hello my name is Tina,
Am trying to assist my mother Pauline Biggadike, she is 2nd cousin 5 times removed to Richard Biggadike, we can find much about Priscilla, but living relatives here would like more info on Richard, as we know not where he was buried, only that he was murdered, and then the family moved away, or as we believe, am really looking to make contact with Geoff and Pat, as family would like to visit his grave
Thankyou

Hi Geoff    :)
Thankyou for your speedy responce, my mum will be so pleased,
I descend from William Biigadike b: 1775 D:15 oct 1840, married to Elizabeth Swan B:1776 D:20 Sep 1851
This was in fact my Great Great Great Great Grandfather
My Great Great Great Grandfather was Charles Biggadike B:1819
M: 16 May 1831 D:30 Nov 1884 married to Mary Ann Barfoot,
John Thomas Biggadike married to Sarah Ebb was my Great Great Grandfather,
Harry Biggadike B:21 Jun 1874 M:10 Jul 1892 D:5 Jan 1919/1920.
My Grandfather was Stanley Albert Biggadike, My Mother Pauline Nee Biggadike, never knew much growing up as, my grandfathers dad died shortly after he was born, Amy Mills remarried shortly after his death, 1 of his brothers, who would not have his brothers children live with them, so they were passed to siblings to bring up, My grandfather was bought up by his sister Dorothy Biggadike, and as far as he knew, his mother who died in 1923 was the first to die, and that is why he was moved, only 1 of his brothers Harry was adopted to Ognar orphanage, but he went on to do great things, the Biggadikes for years to us have been a complete mystery, and my mum is shocked to find that relatives still exist, we have tried many times to start researching, but always got confused as to the many spellings of Biggadike, Bigadyke, Biggadyke, are we actually all from the same line, or are these infact from another Biggadike line, Our spelling seemed to change from Biggadyke to Biggadike when John Thomas & Sarah Ebb married, not sure why, would really love to research all of this further, as have 4 children of my own

Hello Tina, :-[

I believe I owe you an apology as I don't think I have answered your post. I think the confusion has come from me having a computer break down and having to get a new one. Sorry for the confusion I am not usually this dopey.

Thank you for the information on Harriet and Sarah I had no knowledge of either of them.  I see on Free BMD Harriet married in Holbeach so I don't know why I didn't come across it when I looked at the Holbeach Parish Register.
I would love any information you have on them.

If you haven't seen the pictures I sent Ann I am quite willing to send you a copy if you would like them.
Kind regards,
Pat
