My grandfr., Charles A.KING emigrated to Canada during the 1871s. He was listed in Leicestershire, Leicester England 1871 c, and then I found him in Canadian 1881c near London Ontario Canada as a boarder.
I would like any info pertaining to date, name of ship, emigration port from England and?or where he arrived in Canada.........have some skepticism as his arriving in Nova Scotia, Canada but not sure.
I also found in the BMD that he was married in England (aforementioned county) as he was registered 1871 Sept Qtr. Married 1871 (not on census) to Elizabeth Smith.
All help is appreciated.
Thank you

Do you know what year he was born?

Sorry for the goof. Yes, Grandfr., Charles Albert KING was born in 1847 or 1848. I have him listed as 4 yrs old on the Gt Easton Leicestershire 1851c don't know when c was taken that is why I include both years. I am not sure of the month, but on other documents I have his birth in May and June but not sure of that either. Lots of contraditions in my material but those two years 1847 & 1848 I am sure of.
Also, my US c show either 1847 or 1848 that he was born to Swithin George KING and Mary ASHBY.
The parents of SG KING were Mary and George.
Thank you very much, hope the additionanl info helps.

I take it this was the baker in Westminster, Middlesex East, Ontario on the 1881...Was he in Canada for the 1901? There is occupation as well as year of immigration on that census, but if he was already in the u.s. we may not be
able to help...J.J.

Also just note that you think he was married...but wife didn't come with him?
or do I have the wrong entry for 1881...

Therese says she's having trouble with the replies, so I'll put the p.m. reply up here:
"J.J. Thank you, no, he was not in Ontario to my documents. He was listed on 1881 c in Ontario Westminister. Married Mary Ellen Scott 1883, she died don't know when, but he married my grandmother, Frances COLWELL in Windsor Ontario 1889.
I am not sure exact when he emigrated to Canada."
Unfortunately we will miss having the 1901 approx. date of immigration....but would his papers to emigrate to the u.s. have that information on them, or how long he was in Canada...
Have you tried to find that information, yet? J.J.

Hello JJ,
I traced him through Ontario into Detroit MI Wayne County. I found him listed the Detroit City Directory in 1889. He lived at 98 Cherry Detroit. He is a baker throughout the years.
While he lived in Detroit with his wife's sister's family he was at 1431 Michigan Ave. crossed reference with John HUNTER who would be his brother-in-law (both bakers)
The last address I had on him in Ontario Middlesex Canada
was 2031/2 Clarence. HIs wife Mary Ellen Scott KING died between 1883 and 1889, latter date he married France M. nee COLWELL KING
Charles Albert King's immigration papers I have, he became a naturalized US Citizen Oct 30 1896 in Port Huron Circuit Court St Clair County. He became a US resident 20 Sept 1887. The documents had his birthday noted 12 May 1848 & only documented place of birth as England. So if he became a US resident in 1887, he had to have been in US 6 yrs Federal Law and one yr in Michigan. So this confirms 1881c that he was 1st a boarder at Lydia Snipps home with 2 other men who boarded there, one from England & one from Canada. Then 1883 marred Mary Scott.
He left his family in England so I think he was trying to hide his idenity because he also left my grandmother with three young sons.
Wish I could find (have marriage record on Charles and 3 different women he married) something on Mary Ellen Scott KING, 2nd wife in LondonCanada especially death certificate. Could not find death record on her either but he claimed to be a widow on grandmother's marriage record .
I am guessing he emigrated to Canada in 1881 as his father died that yr. However, there are two children born after 1877 who also carry the KING surname. The lost years are 1877 to 1881. Maybe he came
to Canada between those years. I made contact with Charles A. g-grandson in Leicestershire England and he already had some info I had but he did not know the Charles emigrated to Canada. We are both stuck on Charles whereabouts. Thank you for your interest.
