Title: 1841 Census Lookup - HOWARD

SOPHIA HOWARD Born abt. 1814 Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
Would be on the 1841 Census with the following children:

Sarah Ann Howard Born 1831
John Howard Born 1835
Emma Howard Born 1840

Sophia was 'on her own' as her husband had been Transported to Aus' for crimes commited.
She may have been with in-laws or a poor house etc.

Any information from the 1841 Census will help.

I hope that you will visit us often and make lots of progress with your research.

This could be Sophia in 1841.  The 41 does not record relationships within households, marital status or exact place of birth.  It only indicates whether or not someone was born in the census county.  Adult ages are often rounded down to nearest 5.

HOWARD
Sophia, 25

Cherry Bounce, is just off of the High Street in Hemel Hempstead old town.

Thanks for the details on Sophia's neighbours.

Gets more interesting, as my wife's family is Hosier.
Puddephatt, at Cherry Bounce, is also already in my tree, as are Glenisters (but not that far back, or so I thought).

How can I view the 1841 Census to save you keep passing information, as I would like to view more?

I will contact you offlist about this but, at present, the Herts1841 is only available on CD.  This can be purchased from many of the major genealogical suppliers.

The whole of the 1841 for England and Wales will shortly be available online at Ancestry.co.uk, but this is a subscription site.
