Good Evening Everyone , I am looking for any information on the Palmer family from the Essex area.
Here is what I know about them >
John Palmer born about 1779 died 6-30-1856 in Writtle , England
His son was > Samuel Palmer born 1-19-1817 in Writtle , England . Died 1895 in England
Samuel was married to Mary Newman 3-14-1841 in Essex , England
Mary Newman was born > 4-12-1818 I think around Essex and she passed away 11-14-1902 in England
They had the following children :
William B Palmer born 11-16-1848 born in Margaretting
or Ingatestone
Mary born : about 1843 in Margaretting
Elizabeth : 7-13-1844
Thomas born 1852 died : 1861
Samuel born : 1855 died 1861
John born 1860
I know William came to the U.S in 1856 I think maybe through Canada with a George Houghton.
I know for a period of time they lived in Missouri and then went by wagon train to Oregon , where William was a brick and stone mason.
I am looking for any information you may have on this family. I thank you most kindly in advance for all your kind help. I will be very glad to share all that I have in return. My only wish is that I could come to Essex to see where they lived. You can reach me at ci

Hi,
I think these may be them from the Chelmsford 1851 index:
Surname Forename Age Birth place Birth County Folio Census Place
PALMER William 3 Margaretting ESS 228 MGT
PALMER Elizabeth 6 Margaretting ESS 228 MGT
PALMER Mary 9 Margaretting ESS 228 MGT
PALMER Mary 32 Margaretting ESS 228 MGT
PALMER Samuel 34 Ingatestone ESS 228 MGT
There is quite a number of other Palmers on the index, buy too many to list.
No sign of George Houghton or John and Mary Palmer. MGT is Margaretting.
If you post the reference HO107/1775/228 sks may look up the full details for you?
Good hunting and luck,
Geoff.

Hi,
Where were they in 1861? I can check the census if you have a rough address.

Happy New Year Everyone :) ,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your most kind help. I appreciate this more than you know.
As for where they were in 1861 , I believe they were in Margaretting.
Geoff you stated >> " If you post the reference HO107/1775/228 sks may look up the full details for you? " I am so new to the list that I am not sure how to do this , please explain. I feel so silly not knowing how to do this.
Again thank you everyone you are such kind souls. I know there is family still living in Essex , no doubt in Chelmsford , but I don't know who they are or how to contact them. Can anyone please give me an idea how I would go about doing this.
And most important, if I can help anyone in return from here in the U.S. please don't hesitate to ask. I will do my very best for you.
Sincerely,
Candi DeGrande

Hi Candi,
The 1861 census I posted was for Margaretting. The "MGT" is just the abbreviation used on the censuses. I am sorry if I confused you, I have modified the posting to make it clearer.
Wishing you happy hunting in 2005.
All the best, Frances

Hi Candi,
Sorry to have confused you. :o
What I meant was that if you start a new topic, similar to this, entitled, say, "HO107/1775/228 1851 lookup Chelmsford,Essex Palmer" there is a very high likelihood that someone will be able to provide a FULL census lookup, as I only have an index for Chelmsford. The FULL census will provide you with a few more details, that may prove interesting, or of use.
If you would like to see more about Palmers in Essex please have a look at Kevan 's excellent Essex and Suffolk website at:
http://www.essex1841.com/
Click on the following:
Essex & Suffolk 1841 census marriage, births and census search engine.
Then type Palmer in the surname box.
Happy New Year, :D

hi there,
In 1841 Sam and Margaret were living in Parkgate Margaretting.
And here is John in 1841 - sorry no address but he was a labourer.
There are a number of other Palmers in Writtle - possibly siblings -let me know if you need details.
