Title: Thurston Showman Connection
Post by: wamwig on Saturday 01 April 06 14:45 BST (UK)
Hi all

I have been tracing one line of my family, the Thurston's, back to around the early 1800's in Postwick, Norfolk. In discussions with my parents they say it was always said that these Thurstons were probably related to the Thurston Showman family. Now I know that the showman Thurstons were from somewhere up that way (Cambridgeshire/Norfolk), but it also seems to be a fairly common name in Norfolk, so has anybody traced the showman family back and if so do we possibly have a connection?

Many Thanks

Anthony

Hi warmwig.
I am also tracing the thurston family, but have got stuck pre 1841 census.
I don't know whether we are following the same branch, but my ancestor Daniel Thurston ran a pub in EastTuddenham in 1841, and then ran the Bull pub in Norwich.
His son ran a bakery in Newmarket with his elder brother. The latter disappeared with all the money, and the business went bankrupt.
Ring any bells?

Hi Bob

I should imagine somewhere along the line we are, East Tuddenham and Postwick are not that far apart, although as yet your line doesnt ring any bells with me. I shall bear it in mind though and if I come across anything will let you know.
