I have managed to stick a picture on my desktop on top of the desktop image and all the icons are glowing bright red.
I dragged an image onto the desktop from an email I got expecting to be able to save it but instead I have the whole thing!!!
I though I had deleted from the harddrive and it is still there!!!
I will take a picture with the camera and show you all!!
Help me!

Right click with the mouse on an open area of the desktop (ie not on any of the icons) select properties and then desktop .... make changes there.
or try right clicking on the image itself and using the options there.
The red colour around the icons is nothing to worry about it looks like the underlying desktop colour has been set to red this can also be changed from the desktop menu
-
Changing the picture via properties doesnt get rid of it - it stays there just the background changes

Yes it is a PC
-
It may sound too simple but have you tried to restart the machine
Denn
-
try reselecting the original image which is listed in windows as "Tulips" and setting that as the background image.
-
I have restarted the machine - it is still there
It doesnt matter what I do with the back ground the picture still remains on top

Go into Display and see what it shows as your background style - as Falkyrn shows above
Or try Properties, delete

How about you move the pic to a different folder - that way it cannot be found by your desktop
-
I cant select the image on the desktop - it is there but not there if you know what I mean!!! And I have already deleted it from its folder
Anna x
PS Thanks you guys!
-
when you say "it is ther, yet it is not there" do you mean that you have a ghost of the images outline?
-
The picture is there as clear as day but if I left or right click on it it behaves the same as the rest of the desktop.
No matter what I do with the background image - delete it, change it etc the picture remains on the top of it, in the same position

Hi Anna,
Can you change the background image at all? That is, away from Tulips?
Cheers,
Clare

You restarted the computer, but was that before or after moving the image from its folder - if before, then I would imagine another restart may be worth trying.
-
I can use any picture I want as the back ground - the image still stays at the top.
I restarted the pc before and after deleting the file - nothing is changing

-
When you right click on it and go to Properties, what does it say?
-
Same as if I right click anywhere else on the desktop ie
Arrange icons by
Refresh
etc
Anna x
-
So it's not giving you the properties of the image as a separate file , just the properties of the desk top ???
-
Yup. I am a lost cause arent I?
-
Hmmm,
Can you right click on the desktop and click on Properties. The window that appears should have the 'Themes' selected. There should be a little 'drop down' box in which you can change the theme. If it is showing 'Modified Theme' change this to Windows XP and see if that helps.
Cheers,

Hi there
Just a thought, does your pc have a go-back facility. You can re-start the computer before the 'accident' occured.
sarajane ;)
-
Done that - it matters no one jot! Image remains as bold as day.
I might start a new trend - every desk top should have a map of the local cemetery on it!

Hi Anna,
This is very strange... What version of Windows are you running? Is it XP? Or 2000? or another version. I have been assuming XP so far.
Cheers,
Clare

That sounds familiar - XP has save points doesnt it? Will that affect documents that I have written and ftm2005 which I have updated does anyone know?

Anna
Can you go into Control Panel > Display and do a <print Screen> and using one of your graphics programs, . as a jpg image and post it here.
This is what mine looks like:
-
Hi Clare
It is XP
Anna x
PS The red is the background colour behind the desktop image - thought it looked startling so I have changed it to calming blue (even though I am not the least bit calm at the moment)
-
When I press the print screen button nothing is happening

Do you have Active Desktop enabled? Go to the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop, and choose the Web tab.
Deselect any ticked boxes and see if that changes anything

Hi Anna,
Don't use the System Restore functionality unless it is absolutely necessary!!! It will wipe any changes made to the machine since the last restore point was created. For my sins, I am a software engineer and I know that this should be used only as a last resort (usually before re-installing windows!)
I have a couple of questions:
1. Do you have your own login separate to your boyfriend?
2. Can you go to this web page (http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/animals/planetearth/wallpaper/) and right click on one of the images and select 'Set as Desktop Background'
Let us know what happens
Cheers,

Crisis over!!!!!
OH has walked past the door and seen me playing with the settings.
He came over, muttering something (I didnt quite catch it but it certainly wasnt I love you very my dear!)
He then proceeded to click click click and voila no more image of Upperby cemetery on the desktop.
He has now left the room (still muttering - this time I caught the words stupid, bloody and woman).
He loves me really but I have previous for breaking computers when left alone with them!
Many thanks to you all
Anna xx
PS I would like to tell you all how he did it but I was too busy hanging my head in shame at being caught AGAIN!
It was something to do with temp web settings?!?!?!?
-
Any time Anna!
I was going to put in my next post that if it still wasn't working, not to worry, he was unlikely to kill you as nothing was actually 'broken'!! :)
Cheers,
Clare

I have virused, wormed, coked (as in knocked over a can of coke) and even broken the on off button on this pc (which is my boyfriend's) since we moved in together.
I broke the PC chair last week while swinging on it - we bought it at christmas to replace the last one that I broke by doing the same thing!
I may be banned from the PC now - it was nice knowing you all!
