Hello mightymum,

I know this is somewhat unorthodox ... I've found people who quite obviously live in the Strokestown locality. They are connected with the  Strokestown International Poetry Festival.  (http://www.strokestownpoetry.org) One of them may know of someone with an interest in Family History. An online acquaintance posted a query to a similar site .. it was not a genealogy site but one for a small Irish village which had either a contact facility or a guest book where she was able to post her message. I see little harm in going this route to get information .. my acquaintance found a living relative.

With a little bit of luck someone in Strokestown might join RootsChat as it would appear there are no members living in that part of Co. Roscommon. If there is a member there they have been keeping very quiet.

There is a branch of Roscommon County Library at Strokestown. I'm sending you a PM with a bit more information.

mightymum,

I've posted the 1824 Pigot's Directory of the Province of Connaught on the Irish Resources board.
Strokestown is included in this directory.
