I don't have any links with the family but here's a list of William and Margaret's children, including your William.
William 18/10/1795
John 8/10/1797
Donald 23/6/1799
Duncan 07/6/1801
Alexander 20/3/1803
James 6/1/1805
Christian 21/9/1806
Donald 19/12/1813
All christened Comrie. There's quite a gap between Christian and the second Donald so there may be more. :)

Hi Hume, thanks very much for that info, got me right up the tree with that, will check it out. Many Thanks. Janice. ;)

Sorry I have picked up this chat thread rather late, but I have also just started researching my family tree.
William Drummond (born 1795 in Comrie) I believe was my great great great grandfather. I have quite a lot of the family tree pieced together down the line of:
William - John Martin (son of) - James Edwin (son of) - Harold (son of, and my grand father), but it would be great to get details of other branches of the tree, and indeed go back further than William's father and mother, William Drummond/Margaret McEwen if possible.
Hume, I note you appear to have access to census records (?) as you have details of their children. Can you point me in the direction of where I may be able to search through the records (if available) - I'm very new to this and so could do with some tips! I'm finding it especially difficult to get details of people residing in Scotland (and, on my mother's side, Ireland), though information on English ancestors seems easier to come by (at least back to 1840 or so).
Thanks and happy new year!

Hi Catherine,
The following is a very good and comprehensive list of what's available in Scotland, and the information the records hold. You'll find that Scottish records are really helpful with details, at least after 1855. Before that year, details will depend on parishes; some with lots of details and others with the barest.

Thanks hume - I have now registered and am looking around the site. Out of interest, it looks like the census data only goes back to 1841, but the info you provided on the Drummonds dates before 1795. Can I ask where I should look to start tracing this far back?
Apologies if I'm missing the obvious!

Hi Catherine,
This information came from the International Genealogical Index (IGI for short). They have a lot of Scotland's Old Parish Records and also have the statutory birth and marriage indexes from 1855 to around 1874. Original images of the registers do need to be viewed on ScotlandsPeople though. :)
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
From a post from fellow RC-er Gadget recently:
Go to Family Search, Search page
Select International Genealogical Index from the left hand menu
Enter the parents' names in the right hand boxes where it says Father and Mother
You can narrow down your search using counties but this may not be the best idea, especially if your family moved from place to place.

I have a Mary Drummond born 1764 to Alexander Drummond and Margaret McEwen in Comrie. Siblings John, Gregory, Christian and Margaret according to SP.
Does this Alexander fit into anyone (on this board)'s tree? Has anyone done a DNA test I could compare to? (I am not 100% positive that these are the parents for my Mary Drummond but they are the only ones on SP that fit).

Hi All,
Now that I'm retired and in lockdown, I'm picking up the threads of research I started 15-20 years ago. I let it lapse for too long (work got in the way!). I recall contacting someone with a common ancestry at the time - might have been you, Janice?
From my research I got back to William Drummond and Hannah Rayner in Hull, who was my GGG Grandfather. Their son RRJ Drummond's daughter Edith was my mother's Grandmother. I did a lot of digging at libraries and records offices in Yorkshire, even visiting old addresses including tracking up to Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar.
However, with William I could only ever find him coming from "Scotland" - no more information than that other than his age and the fact that he was bankrupted in 1822 or '23. The Comrie Drummonds always appeared to be the most likely candidates for getting further back, but so far I've been unable to validate the link.
Has anyone got any corroborating evidence of this link? We were hoping to do a 'grand tour' of Yorkshire and Scotland this summer to do some more research, but that looks increasingly unlikely in the present circumstances.
Thanks
Bob

hi Janice,so your g/g/grandad Richard Drummond would have been a brother t o my g/g/grandad Thomas Drummond who is in the photo I put on this thread,I will have to see if I can fish out some old photos ,you never know ther e might be one of them together somewhere,my aun Ena kept loads of old family photos, she always said our Drummonds had links to Stirling castle x
-
Stirling Castle. Now that's interesting! Our family tales from Great Grandma is that we were to remember that we were descended from the HIGHLAND Drummonds. To hear the stories from a couple of other sources does reinforce those connections.
