Title: Missing Islington Family need help
Post by: wandade on Friday 08 October 04 08:08 BST (UK)
:) Hello from Aussie.  I am looking for some of my family members from Islington, my gran was born there in 1893 and I have the 1901 census for the family, then I lost them !!!!!!  Gran came to Australia as a war bride, but the rest were left in Islington, I can't find her father Francis Ernest WALTON 's death nor his wife ELIZABETH ANNE WALTON (nee BOOTH)  all I know is that  Francis was a pianoforte maker in Islington/ London area and lived in Isledon Road for many many years.  there were 3 children My Gran (Dorothy) sister Grace and brother William.  I am going nuts trying to find out about them and what happened to them (Gran never spoke of home and passed away many years ago)  If anyone can help in any small way please let me know.  I would especially love to know about Francis and his piano forte making, (have looked up occupation, but would love to know where he worked) also when he and his wife died and where ??? they are my brick wall, along with what happened to William ??????  family members still living in England do not answer correspondence.......many thanks wandade

I've looked in a couple of trade directories but can't find Francis. But don't give up on trade directories as they can tell you if your relatives moved out of Islington.

Regards

Paula

Found this website
http://www.uk-piano.org/history/history.html
and looks like it is recent as new posts were placed. Its all about the Piano and the history and also has a Piano History Forum where you could place a post asking for help with the companys that were in London at the same time as your Francis. From the info on the website it says .....
There were 136 piano makers in England and 133 were based in London, mainly in Islington. .....
So at least you'll have a start on where to post a question and you might even get all the answers your seeking

Good Luck

We had a Charles Lancaster also a piano maker living in London at about the same time. I've only just 'found' him but will look out for anything that could be useful to you

Hi,

Don't know whether this will be of any help but I remember that my Grandmother had a piano made in Bingfield Street, Islington probably in the 1920's on which she taught me to play.  I don't remember any more details unfortunately but maybe this street name could help you track down the Piano Maker you're looking for.
