Title: binane family of kerry
Post by: joani on Saturday 25 March 06 19:29 GMT (UK)
Michael binane and wife left Kerry before 1852. One daughter born in New York state 1852 but one son born about 4 yrs. before in Kerry. Where in Kerry? Son's name Patrick Binane. This is an unusal surname and should not be too difficult to find. Here's hoping!

Are you sure the name is "Binane?" I've personally never heard of any family with that name in Kerry. There aren't any listed in the telephone directory either. Perhaps spelling isn't correct? How are you pronouncing it?

Binane might be a corruption of the English name Bunyan. The name of Bunyan in the Irish language is Bunáin. the name Bunyan is very common in North Kerry, especially in the Listowel and Ballybunion areas.

If Michael Binane emigrated before 1852 it is quite likely he was Irish speaking so I would look for other variants of Binane such as Bunyan and Bunnion as spelling of Irish surnames was often very variable.

Have you searched the Kerry parish records? They are online for free at www.irishgenealogy.ie
There are no Binane entries but a number for Bunnion and Bunyan.
There is a baptism of Patrick Bunnion of Ballylongford 21 Mar 1834 Parents Michael Bunnion Hanora Enright - Sponsors Michael Bunnion Mary Brassil.
I didn't find anymore children of this couple but I only did a quick search.
Hope this will help

I could only find one Binane Baptism and it did not seem to be relevant.

I found three references to the name BINANE in Kerry - baptism and sponsors.
They might not be relevant, but prove the existence of the name BINANE in Kerry.

I think that the name BEHANE should be used in the search.
Behane/Behan/Bennett are also corruptions of the name BUNYAN or Bunáin.
There is a baptism in Tralee (6th March 1859) of Patrick Behane, with a father named Michael Behane.
This might not be relevant, but is a start.
