Hi Doreen, thankyou for your reply.
I am specifically interested in the Soldiers' Died entries to collate other information from CWGC etc. to ensure that I have the correct people to add to a local roll of honour including information from a number of sources :)
Best wishes

cas,are they rellies or are you researching local men, post what names you have,me and chris will dig up what we can, mack
-
Hi Mack
A few are rellies but not many. Four years ago :o I started to put all my info from the local war memorial etc. on the web http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gypsy/roh.htm so it might help others but I never got round to finishing it ::)
Yesterday, I decided that I had better do something about finishing it hence a couple of enquiries BUT it's far too mammoth a task to ask anybody to help in any great way! And I've lots more names to add (particulary R-Z WW1) when I dig out my old paper notes ;)

his CWGC details say his mother is mrs s e ayriss, but i think his parents were george and lydia,is there any way to find out.

I don't have anything to hand (apart from census) and the Sandgate PRs aren't held locally as far as I am aware but there is a Sam J AYRISS age 9 in the 1901 census born Sandgate a visitor in Islington RG13/191 folio 160 page 20 with some other family members which might fit with being age 24 at death (there is also the younger Samuel J in Sandgate with his parents). I can post the full details from the census and investigate further if you wish. He's not on the Folkestone Roll of Honour nor war memorial but he may be on the Sandgate one. I can get information from the original applications for the Folkestone Roll of Honour/Certificates of Glory but I don't know of anything for Sandgate :-\

I've had a clearer look and this does look the better fit ......................
1901
Visitors at 45 Shepperton Road, Islington
Sally E AYRISS wid 31 b.Sandgate
Sam J 9 b.Sandgate
William J 7 b.Sandgate
So it looks probable that he was the son of Mrs S E AYRISS as per CWGC records ???
